Righto, I have two questions to fire away at you guys.

 

1. I have a pair of Skullcandy, Full Metal Jackets. Alas, they live up to what everyone says about there durability <_< At the very end of the wire, by the connector, the plastic has worn down, exposing the wire, that connects to the actual ear pieces. Would it be possible to soldier the wire back together? I shall post a picture showing it soon, permitting I don't break it D:

 

2. If I was to buy some new heaphones for about NZD$70, what are some good ones that can withstand some abuse, yet still have good sound like the Skullcandy's.

Wouldn't be able to help with Q1 since i just buy new headphones every time i break a pair.

 

For Q2 what sort of headphones do you want? iems? in ear?

Preferably in ear that come with different sized buds.

Q1: If you consider the durability of Skullcandy's, that exposed wire won't last long either. I did that with some SC's not long ago, and the soldering really didn't last very long.

 

Q2:

Sennheiser HD201 headphones.

 

Not in ear, but they fit in an iPod, and are MILES better than Skullcandy's. They'll sound great when you run them through, too. They're a little over your budget, at around NZD$40. If you want anything durable, you'll have to pay more than $30.

Untrue, I'm currently using my 4 year old $15 philips headphones and they still work like new and are not breaking anywhere, plus I have an almost 7 year old philips that still works despite pretty much being in pieces.

 

I do agree on your opinion on skullcandies, they break very easily and should not be bought considering the price they are. The Sennheiser looks pretty good.

Same, I've got some $12 2XL hanger buds that I've had for a year, and disregarding the bit of duct tape I had to put on them to keep the plug from bending, they work great (especially considering the fact that they get shoved in the side of my bag every day)

 

I can't recommend any in-ears, they never fit in mine/are too loud imo.

 

To fix it I'd try a bit of solder then wrap it in some duct tape to immobilize that part of the wire. If I recall correctly, Skullcandys have braided aluminum wire, so I dunno if there's a specific sort of solder you ought to use.

Why would anyone buy Skullcandy in the first place? Absolutely terrible headphones. Yes, they'll sound "amazing" over your iPod earphones, but overall they are a waste of money when you can find something that is a lot better in the sound and build quality department for a fraction of the cost of Skullcandy headphones.

 

I agree with sbrideau about Philips. I've had two low-end sets and they were very good, especially for what I paid. I'm going to buy some AKG K240 Mk. II headphones soon, because my Sennheisers are starting to wear out now.

 

If you want in-ears, you can't go wrong with Sennheiser CX300 IEMs. I've had a set of those for two years now and I would fully recommend them to anyone.

I am quite liking the Sennheiser CX300, and I am quite keen for a pair. Still enough time for Santa to make some.
