190 black demon task...AGAIN.

Featured Replies

Ok so i've recently been going for 99 defence through slayer and i came across a problem recently. I use duradel and i seem be to stuck on a loop of Black Demon tasks and now im out of points to cancel and/or block them. So i was wondering if it would be better to range them or mage them? I would melee them but with the current price of prayer pots i cant afford the loss.

Mage Level: 80

Setup:

Helm: Farseer / Dagon'hai Hat

Amulet: Glory

Plate: Dagon'hai Top

Legs: Dagon'hai legs

Boots: Lightness

Gloves: Barrows

Ring: Wealth

Cape: Cooking Skillcape

Range Level: 80

Setup:

Helm: Archer

Amulet: Glory

Plate: Blk d'hide

legs: Blk d'hide

Boots: Snakeskin

Gloves: Barrows

Ring: Wealth

Cape: Accumulator

Weapon: Rune c'bow

Ammo: Broad Bolts

They're quite great Ranging XP in the Chaos Tunnels, you might want to try that. Judging from your level and your setup you'd do fine. Using Magic might result in quite a money loss, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, since you are high-defenced, you could try tanking them with Barrows armour and Meleeing them. Verac's/Guthan's mixture has worked well for me, although you do have to chop your task into multiple trips to restock food every now and then.

My melee stats arent too great but i do have a nice def.

Attack:85

Strength: 91

Defence: 92

Hitpoints: 91

and even with those stats in barrows armor they hit me pretty hard.

You can use a halberd on them in the chaos tunnels, that's what I always do. It works pretty well, and you can semi-afk them.

What I do is take 2-3 ppots and 2 super str and att pots, pray melee and cause some havoc, oh also I do this task in the CT

Finally on here to update that I have officially quit! It's been fun.

@ blkdragon, thx for the tip on the d hally i forgot about that method xD

@Gandalf, i would perfer not to use p pots because im running low on money and i always seem to lose money on this task if i melee them.

use zamorak mixes

4 times cheaper per prayer point than prayer potions

they're so cheap that you get more money from the slayer points off the task than you'll spend on the mixes

/thread plz

For Prayer Potions, have you ever considered the Wrench to extend the amount healed?

Finally bought my whip. =D

yea but either way i cant afford the prayer pots to begin with anymore which is why im going to range or hally them

Put your MTK on herbs. You will have a decent amount of ranarr herbs from that. And then you should be able to get enough herb drops with slayer to fulfill your needs. If not, then you are praying too much.

Black demons are perfect for cannoning, or ranging. If you are unable to purchase prayer pots.

Cannoning would cost more than ppots though

well, with slayer you make money on one task and you lose some on other tasks.

The other option would be to range. You will make 100k+ on a task for sure. And that is when you have bad luck.

Anyway, people are always moaning about being efficient. If you can cut the time you can do a black demon task in half, or even more, than technically you are making money, since by not cannoning it can take you up to 2 hours (if you range for instance). You can cannon a black demon task in less than 45 minutes. Leaves you with an hour at least to make 1M.

Big profit according to the 'virtual runescaper'.

I just liked to cannon them in the member's dungeon because it was more fun than meleeing them, or just ranging them. The situation is very dynamic cannoning them there. There are usually other people around who can interfere, you have to keep in mind your safespot, you can choose not to use melee prayer when you reload and such, get the timing of reloading right, etc.

But I wouldn't personally cannon them any more, since I sold my cannon once I hit 99 slayer. I just remember from doing them, that they would always drop ranarr herbs. Before I cannoned them, I meleed them with prayer. And I quickly changed to semi-tanking them once I got the proper equipment and stats.

Semi-tanking is really the way to go if you don't want to spend too much time and money on black demons. And I find semi-tanking more fun than praying, since you do have to pay attention and make a decision once in a while.

I wouldn't recommend tanking black demons. they hit too hard and often. I've tried it myself and decided to just pray melee.

Using a cannon would also require you to use prayer protection in order for you to pick up the drops.

Ranging or using a d hally would be your best option in my opinion.

Really? I've killed them really finely with Guthan's Plate, Verac's Skirt, Rune Kite, Whip etc. Ö.Ö

Yeah, rune kite -> inefficient etc :P

I wouldn't recommend tanking until you have at least extreme def pots, with those and soul split you can basically tank any task but it's obviously not an option for you.

I'd recommend safespot ranging them in the chaos tunnels or taverly, it's pretty slow though. You really might want to consider making some money and just melee'ing with melee pray.

You don't tank them. You semi-tank them.

you wear verac or bandos. You take along a bunyip and SGS. Super def, att, str.

You pray when your Hp gets really low. You don't pray when you are fine.

And it is then just a matter of luck. If you are lucky they hit nothing but zeros for minutes. If you are unlucky they hit 16s several times in a row. Then you just put on prayer for a while. The bunyip will heal you back.

The difference with praying is that you can get away with either not using any prayer pots at all, or just one or two.

It's best though to use an SGS as well. It makes a difference.

How do you suppose he get a SGS when he can't even afford prayer pots? And you also suggest that he prays when he gets hit. he wants definite answers and not "If you are lucky they hit nothing but zeros for minutes. If you are unlucky they hit 16s several times in a row". He can't afford to take chances. We also don't know if his summoning level even allows him to use a bunyip.

The SGS is a valid point but I think he was just explaining that tanking them is possible. Its not really taking a chance, the way he described is often more efficient in terms of cost than praying them the whole time.

Skylor already tried wearing barrows armor and admitted that he gets hit pretty hard even with the following stats:

"My melee stats arent too great but i do have a nice def.

Attack:85

Strength: 91

Defence: 92

Hitpoints: 91

and even with those stats in barrows armor they hit me pretty hard. "

So even semi tanking won't work since this would still entail using P Pots since he still gets hit hard often..

Ranging or D hally would then be the best option for skylor.
