Recommended Posts

Their is a rumor going around, that on new years eve, today, 1 million accounts will be hacked, if you google new years eve hack runescape, you can get a link to the list, but it has 2 dialupPWD's, 3 Trojans, and another virus, according to Norton website check. Is this real, fake, possible, plausible? I don't know if it is. And I didn't know what forum to post it in, move if needed, but I want a discussion.

In your response, please say if you think it is real, fake, possible, or doubtful.

This has already been discussed and it is most likely a hoax. Just enjoy the new year :)

Laikrob basically said it well enough in the last topic:

Hackers make these lists and post them on public cheatsites and hack communities every month or so - either top 1M, top 100K, top 10K overall players, top 1K/10K every skill or from different Playermod lists or memberlists from official forums, to make it easier to target reasonably higher leveled possibly weakly passworded or abandoned accounts.

That some guy decided to announce it for extra e-fame and hackredit, is no surprise. Jagex knows about these probably empty threats, and IF he's found any way to bypass normal procedures (which is very very unlikely), then they will handle it.

It's pure attention seeking and scare tactics, and they are gaining what they want the most: e-fame and reputation.

Allowing these topics to stay open for discussion is to give them the attention they desire and don't deserve.

Keep your accounts secure as usual, and otherwise enjoy playing.

There's really no further need to discuss this and doing so would just be giving what the supposed "hacker" wants; attention.
