Curses while training

I just came back from a RS break and today I finished all quests leading up to the temple at Senntisten. Tomorrow I'll have curses at my disposal and I would like some opinions on when to use them. The reflect protection prayers are obviously better than the regular protection spells on slayer tasks you pray on in the first place like Dark beasts or Aberrant spectres. Should I use drain strength as well while doing those tasks?

Then there are the tasks like fire giants and abyssal demons that don't require a protection prayer. Is it worth using drain strength on them (I always use 10% strength while slaying) or is the drain rate too high for it to be worthwhile?

My favourite GWD boss is Zilyana. I always melee in small teams (4-5) using a godsword. Should I stick to piety and protect from magic there or would switching to leech strength/attack and reflect magic result in more damage?

(I know I don't have the prayer level for leech Strength but it's high up on my to do- list. I'm not aiming any higher for now so don't tell me to get turmoil)

I was wondering the same question about the prayers. I did the quest yesterday (snow day from work ftw) as well as got 80 prayer (for the extra prayer point per dose and the leech defense).

I've tested the prayers at a few places and there both impressive and annoying.

The worst place for them is DK's (mainly supreme) the moment you use deflect range you start deflecting 90% of the spins attacks this means you run, pause for a milli second do the animation for each attack. Its fine once your next to him, but it makes the run staggered.

This happens at sara, but since the the magic attacks are pretty rare (including the mini) you don't stagger much at all.

As for the saps and leeches I've only tested a few.

Sap mage does improve kill time of npc's as does warrior and ranger.

Leech defense is nice for bosses. I had trouble getting a sara team so I ended up joining a 110+ team. It started off 6 man some fell at the first step then others just left so it was me, a 112 and a 113. With deflect mage and leech defense we were killing here about as well as a 3 man 120+ team would have.

Two leeches and a deflect drain about the same as piety and a protect.

This still leaves the question of general usage for training.

I'm trying to work out if -10% > +10% attack and +10% strength too.

O and the full effects of sap/leech take a while to kick in.

Berserker increses how long pots last

If you are praying protect from melee for example, you don't want to sap or leech your opponets atk and str lvls, because they won't hit you, and thus you won't deflect anything.

Sap def always seems the best, unless you are praying something on a monster that has 2 combat styles, in which case you should sap them for the style that you aren't protected against

For those who prefer high-speed slaying (I mean sacrificing a bit of gp for speed), Turmoil is glorious on most tasks. Soul Split is helpful in places like Wyverns.

For lower level Curses, I would stick to sap defence and berserker (super slow drain rate makes it worth it if you are using expensive pots and can wear Prayer-enhancing armour on). Leech defense can be helpful if you're tanking a task like Iron Dragons or Steels and don't have Turmoil/Soul Split.

I have most high defence tasks blocked. Thanks for the help Shepherd but would sap defence be more effective than 10% strength?

There is no sap defense. You have sap warrior, which drains attack, strength, and defense; sap ranger, which drains range and defense; and sap mage, which drains magic and defense.

If you use piety on every task anyway it would probably be better to just stick with normal prayers but I haven't tested if leech and sap prayers are just as good as piety. The only time I use curses during tasks are for deflect prayers, soul split to heal and some times I use turmoil on things like iron/steel dragons. I've actually found using turmoil and a unicorn to tank iron/steels with soul split if you really need to heal more works great. Leech defence and the other leeches do seem to be better than using turmoil in a team against a monster like the corp.

Well of course turmoil is better do to high stat boosts and they drain are almost the same. Using leeches against piety isn't that great as you need about 2-3 leeches and you don't get as great as a boost, also the drain rates will be a little higher.
