Skateboarding to get fit

No, you'd spend most of your time coasting. Stick to running, it's more demanding.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

If you want to do some kind of extreme sport, try BMXing. It's good fun, and if you ride park, you don't coast very much at all. You get a lot of work in your arms and legs.

Try it out.

So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth,

These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,

Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in,

Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,

Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,

Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,

Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got,

And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,

And realise that the other world that you're always looking for,

Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,

And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,

After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

So shine your light so bright that all can see,

Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.

If its major weight loss your after then no. The only way you would lose weight by boarding is by going to say, a skate park or something.

However compared to sitting doing nothing coasting is better.

What boarding would do is strengthen your core muscles (needed for balance) and so when you eventually do lose the weight you'll look reasonably conditioned (providing you have some sort of strength training regime as well)

Well i work at a skatepark, so access to one isnt a problem. and biking is a definate not cause my wrists are blown from falling too much on them. but yeah i was thinking just running would be a better weight loss option.

i've almost completely cut out soda and other high sugared drinks. what other eating tips can i do to more effectively lose some weght?

Well losing weight is simple when you look at it.

Calories intake < Calories expended.

Simple. Roughly an average male needs between 2000-3000 calories to sustain himself. So naturally eating more/less will have an effect. It takes 3500 calories to burn 1lb of fat.

Generally as a rule, if its processed, don't eat it. Eat something which is going to fill you up. Simple things really will make all the difference, one less scoop of ice cream, no cake after dinner some days, that sort of thing.

Your diet should consist of roughly 50-30-20 (carbohydrates - main source of energy, especially complex starches eg potatoes, pasta, rice, wholemeal bread; protein - growth and repair of muscles, if wanting to put on muscle then eat more of this, tuna, red meats, cheese chicken and eggs are all good sources; fats - yes you need fat to survive,or your body wont burn the fat you have; found in nearly everything, try and stick to non-saturated though)

If you are going to be serious about your diet, then around every 7-10 days have a 'cheat' day where you can eat anything you want. Around 2lbs lost a week is healthy, anything more might cause a yo-oy reaction when you stop

Hope this helps, anything else?

umm pretty much i just wanna know some tasty goooood food that i can stick to. money's not a problem, payday on thursday :) but anyway yeah just everyones favorite food and some suggestions would help, but thanks

bell pepper, bell pepper!

Nah, but seriously, try and find a vegetable you like/can tolerate on a regular basis. A good source of fat is avocado or nuts. For dinner last night I had burgers with lean beef, avocado, tomato, capsicum, carrot, lettuce, cucumber and onion on soy and linseed rolls. They were amazing and about 300 calories each.

Variety is the key. Don't try and eat rabbit food non stop, because it'll make things even harder. Throw in some of the food you like, in small portions. I hate eating chicken non stop, so twice a week I have some red meat and just run an extra 10 minutes that day to balance it out.

i dont know to be honest, skating is quite a work out if you either havent done it before, or are skilled and jump up and down a lot of things.

i skate fairly often, and when i go to the skatepark, im jumping down stairs sets, up boxes and over pyramids, etc. next day i'm sore all over. so i guess if you really do put effort into it, it can be a good bodily work out, not a great one, but keep you in shape somewhat.

I'd say it'd be pretty good, considering it can keep you outside for a couple of hours each day being active and enjoying yourself. However probably the best solution is to get yourself a balanced diet, if you're just looking for weight control. Although if skating is the only thing you can do, go for it - it's better than nothing - but keep in mind that "real" sports and stuff like working out and running will keep you in much better physical shape.

Just focus more on a better diet and getting outside a lot, if you aren't already. Avoid (But don't worry about eliminating) fast food, snacks, and other foods that provide most of their calories through fat. Any of that energy you don't use will be stored as body fat. I believe that a good percent for where you get youe energy from is 60-70% carbohydrates, 10-20% fat, 10-20% protein for the average person. For carbohydrates try to get more complex carbs (WHOLE WHEAT bread and grain, etc) as opposed to sugars and white bread (Candy, pop, non-whole grain bagels). It's fine to have some, but complex carbs are your base. If I'm correct, a peanut butter and jam sandwich with skim milk is pretty much the perfect meal/snack for keeping this ratio (You get approximately 65g carbs, 10g fat, 20g protein). It is fairly simple to do this, and there are a lot of different meals you can make. Remember that the more you're active, the more likely it is that you'll start to slim down.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Check out this link: http://www.loadedboards.com/adam2/blog/index.php?2008/03/20/111-lose-weight-by-longboarding (its safe and that, honest!)

I know its cheesy having a before and after pic like that ha ha, but it shows it can be done I guess. Even if you don't wanna buy a top of the range LDP (long distance pumping) board, I reckon just commuting on a longboard (nothing against "normal skateboards" by the way - the softer, larger wheels just soak up the cracks better!) has gotta be better than driving or walking. And its a whole lot more fun!
