Hello everyone

My parents (and grandparents) are making me and my sister go to this school in Ottawa. I really don't want to do it, but there's no way I can avoid it. I won't post the type of school here, because that might make people say "Oh, that type of school is great, you'll love it!" because that's not what I want to hear. Instead, if you can think of anything that I would find interesting or amusing that would be very much appreciated. I will need cheering up during the time when I have to adjust to living in the city after living in the country and being home-schooled for my whole life.

Homeschooling is terrible. I assume you'll be going to a school where you'll have actual peers. In this way you'll learn to be social and connect with people. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but that's the biggest positive that I can think of.

Well, in my school there's this kid who was homeschooled for fourteen years and is now taking his first year of public school as a sophomore. He's very nice and outgoing, and I'd say less cynical/pessimistic than most of the kids. I dunno, just know that most people won't talk to you unless you talk to them first. Making friends isn't hard if you're friendly and don't have trouble starting conversations.

You will have fun. From what I know, Ottawa is a lively, fun city - I have a few friends there, but they're about to graduate, and I'm thinking you're younger than me.

 

The best advice I could think of: enjoy yourself.

I was homeschooled for the first 10 years of school before going to school for the last two years. It was a difficult transition for me even though I already knew a fair few of the kids in the year, so it will probably be difficult for you as well (just being honest). I'm sure you'll be fine, but if you do happen to have trouble making friends, the best advice I've ever had for that is to go talk to the other people that don't have friends. There will always be some. Other than that, just be as confident as you can manage.

I don't have any experience of homeschooling myself, but that sounds like a horrible transition.

Homeschooling is horrible.

I've only known a few kids who were homeschooled, 3 to be exact, and 2 of those three are annoying morons who act like they are 8 years old(they are 15 and 13). I mean, they do the same childish things over and over, and cry and whine. The third guy is the older brother of te fiteen year old. He is a smart, funny person. But hey, I'm betting you're different. Most public schoolers are accepting('least I am).

Stalk senators and take pictures of them doing stuff that would lose them elections.

 

Then, blackmail.

Find out the big, most powerfully bully in the school. On the first day grab a tray or something and knock that [bleep] out.

 

Everyone will either worship you, or never mess with you.

I think people are going to be weird, cool, annoying, friendly, and mean no matter if they're home-schooled or not. Just because they didn't go to the same public institution for 10 years doesn't mean they are some breed of alien. Public schooling is completely overrated anyways, especially in the U.S
