mullen32
I'm interested in leveling mining as well as smithing, and one way to do this is gold. Is it reasonable to get a high level mining concentrated ore and smelting, or will I go crazy? Goal: All stats 70+
Vulxai
It's very reasonable, how high are you interested in going? Make sure you have the goldsmithing gaunts as well. ~ Proud Father ~ Proud (Currently Deployed) Army National Guardsmen ~ Proud Lakota ~ Retired Tip.It Crew ~
mullen32
Don't really have a set goal at this point. Already have the gaunts. Also realized that I need 80 mining for concentrated gold, so I guess powermining iron until 80? Goal: All stats 70+

I would suggest switching to Concentrated Coal at 77, that is my plan too. :P

I mined iron until 77 because I don't like granite, but at 77, I'd go for concentrated coal, that way you'll get a glance at the caverns beforehand. ~ Proud Father ~ Proud (Currently Deployed) Army National Guardsmen ~ Proud Lakota ~ Retired Tip.It Crew ~

Is it reasonable to get a high level mining concentrated ore and smelting, or will I go crazy?you can superheat gold ores while you mine them, without interrupting the miningYou don't even need to click the concentrated ore rock more than once, so long as your timing is correctSure, you'll lose money. But you'll get 99 mining + smithing + magic in the same time it would take you to get 99 mining off concentrated gold ores

If not, then it still would take longer since you need the time to actually cast the superheat spell, and then remine the gold. ~ Proud Father ~ Proud (Currently Deployed) Army National Guardsmen ~ Proud Lakota ~ Retired Tip.It Crew ~
Grimy_Bunyip
Are you implying you can superheat the gold ores as you mine them without having to reclick the rock?yes, gold ores will in fact still be appearing in your inventory as you cast the superheat spell The caveat as, you cannot cast the spell too quickly. Typically you can cast the superheat spell every 2.4 seconds, HOWEVER you must wait a full 3.0 seconds otherwise the second spell will interrupt your mining and force you to click the rock again. rule of thumb: when your superheating animation ends, you are free to cast another superheat
mullen32
Whats the time difference of banking iron ores versus dropping them all? I think the 3 piscatoris iron rocks are the best spot for this, right? Goal: All stats 70+
Lady_Shahdie
To your original inquiry...that is the method I'm using right now in fact . Have been using it ever since 82 smithing (94 smithing currently). I have amassed over 80k bars, and may not end up ever switching to other methods. You just have to bear in mind that you will be smelting bar, after bar, after bar. I still have 90k bars left if I decide to follow through all the way to 99. Still though, its a unique way to level and racks in plenty of xp (caused me to jump from 13 mill mining xp to 20 mill). ~Retired 13-July-2010~Thanks for the great memories folks :). mullen32
Thanks for your reply Shahdie. As long as someone else can tolerate this method then I should be okay with it :P Goal: All stats 70+
parthenorius
I love powerheating gold. It's like alching, but you get smithing xp as a bonus !
mullen32
I realize i'm bringing this back from the dead, but I thought it made more sense than making a new topic. I'm looking into other ways for raising smithing levels (mith platebodies), and was wondering if it made more sense to sell the gold ore I get from the concentrated mines and use that money for mithril bars, or keep the ore and smelt it, then sell it?
