Missing my Mummy - Easier travel

Recommended Posts

On the Missing my Mummy quest you're required to travel to Uzer a few times in order to go to the temple. However, the travel advice given is that of making use of the carpet rides. However, perhaps an alternative is using the fairy rings. Entering D L Q you arrive a not at all far away from the temple, and I think it may be slightly quicker.

This may be true when you go to Varroc, but the rest of the time you remain in the Southern Desert or Al-kharid nowhere near an easy access fairy ring making the eaisest option to head bk to the nearest carpet hub.

Yes, but if one has the suggested Amulet of Glory with them, they can simply teleport to Edgeville and use the fairy ring there, which would take no longer than 20 seconds.

But if you are IN the southern desert and thus right near a carpet or indeed in Al-kharid and right by a carpet. Is it not a waste of time to teleport AWAY from where u need to be to then teleport back in?

Plus that fairy ring to whihc you refer, if memory serves me, is a fair ole trek for Uzer and in the blank desert so easy to get lost.

And in an item heavy quest such as missing my mummy do you really wanna carry around an unnecessary staff and use an extra invent slot up?

When are you ever actually in the desert, all you have to do is to be at the temple and Draynor Village

Edit: Although I agree with your argument that the quest is an item heavy one, the claim that due to the desert's somewhat blankness and thus any travelling through it is difficult, I feel does not hold up, as all you must do is run directly West.

Ahh I see tip.it didn't put the full 100% in the main guide and jsut the easy ones.

Even so the guide only tells you to "return to the pyramid" in all but 1 case.

And that fairy ring is kinda out of the way like I said and it seems to me still counter intuitive to teleport to edgeville to go to an out of the way fairy ring when you tele to al-kharid and be right on the carpet that drops you right by the pyramid

Despite your consistent belief that there is no reason to teleport to Edgeville, my argument remains the same. I'm suggesting it as an alternative travel method than the one given in the guide, as for the simple reason that it gets you to the destination quicker. However, although I have no timings for this, I'm certain that it is quicker.

As, in order to get to the Fairy ring, all one needs to do is teleport to edgeville, make a 20 second run to the fairy ring, and then click the ring, enter the code once in Zanaris and after an instant teleport, you're there.

To combat your belief that the carpet drops you right by the pyramid, let me offer this picture to actually prove that the ring is the same distance, if not closer.

Well you're red line is biased as u can go thru Uzer for a faster route.

Also I culda sworn theres some aggressive wolves or something between the ring and the pyramid, which makes carpets a safer option.

Plus the biggest flaw is:

Missing My Mummy Does NOT require Fairy Tale Part 2 or any other quest that requires it. Therefore it is NOT a given that people have access to the fairy rings.

The guide gives the carpet travel option as anyone who can do the quest can use the carpets.

I'm sure it'd annoy a lot of people if a quest guide told them to use fairy rings on a quest where you are no required to of done that quest, especially since it is an easy quest that 90% of new players are likely to do well before fairy tale part 2.

Although you've pointed out a bias, this is not deliberate. Either way, it is closer, so stop pursuing that point. Furthermore, wolves? I didn't notice any, and if I did but missed them, they sure didn't kill or severly damage me enough for me to even notice them.

Additionally, you're either forgetting or ignoring my initial point.

I said, that it could be used as an ALTERNATIVE, not once have I said that this is the only way that should be said in the guide. For one, something could be said, like this.

Along with the suggested items : Lunar/Dramen Staff (Note, this is only available to people who have completed Fairy Tales part 2)

To be perfectly honest, even if I personally was unable to use the rings, I'd still have been pleased that the information was there had I been able to use it, and therefore take advantage of it.

And finally, your claim that 90% of most players will do this before Fairy Tales part 2 is ridiculous. I'm sure more than 10% of members have done Fairy Tales part 2, you only have to examine how many people have quest capes. Futhermore, I thought tip.it catered to all levels, not just lower levels, or Novice questers who haven't done certain quests. Like I said, it's an alternative option, NOT the only option that the website should suggest.

Dear god learn to read.

I said 90% of NEW players.

Since missing my mummy requires very low stats etc compared to Fairy tale part 2.

You're dispute was the tavel adivce given and basically saying it should be changed to offer the other option as well:

1) Tip.it guides in the guide itself never offer two routes they offer one

2) Tip.it guides generally don't hijack fairy rings in needlessly, arguably every last quest out there that doesn't require fairy tale part 2 could benefit from fairy ring travel, but people doing them don't neccessarily have access to that.

As an extra Hints & Tips, fairy ring can be used instead maybe relevant, but in the main guide it jsut doesn't fit.

I overlooked that you said "new", despite this, I still feel strongly that the guides as a whole should cater to ALL players, not just new players.

Furthermore, I never actually said " It should be said like so" my example was just that, an example. I offer no dispute that it be implemented into the Hints & Tips, in fact I think it's a great idea.

Guides aren't just ctered to new players.

They are catered based on the REQUIREMENTS of that content.

I'm sure it'd be highly frustrating if you hadn't unlocked fairy rings, hot air balloons, mine carts etc etc etc. every single guide, even things that don't require them particular quests, told you to use them.

I don't understand what's the reason behind arguing over something like this. It's a practical alternative way of getting there, so I can't understand why it shouldn't be added. You could just write the guide somewhat like "Take a carpet ride from X to X, or if you have completed Fairy Tale Pt. II you can teleport there with a Fairy Ring (code XXX)".

I think your argument is mediocre, I feel you're simply arguing now, not for the actual matter in hand but in order to not lose face.

I am merely suggesting a short sentance in the Tips section offering Fairy rings as an alternative, as the poster before me has just said, it's a beneficial method to those who can use it.

Could this not be done? This is a clear example of a way that it could be included. Can you not at least concede that including it in the Tips section is a good idea? :S

Sorry to interrupt you guys, but the this thread is just hilarius - reminds me of the two guys standing in each of their watchtower (the Fremennik Isles quest):

"Neitiznot" !

"Jatizso" !

"Neitiznot" !

"Jatizso" !

So come on and give each other a hug and let's move on !

To be a bit more on the serious side i'll agree with @DoomedMages - looking at the image the two routes seem to be almost equal and whether or not one would teleport out from the desert or not is, IMO, just a matter of preferences.

I personally would have any problem with:

1. teleport to my POH and rub my glory amulet

2. teleport to Edgeville and run to the Fairy Ring

I know that some would argue that this takes too long, but since i'm paid by the hour doing this i really don't care.

So IMO this piece of info would indeed fit very well in the Tips, tricks & notes section of the guide

just my 2c

For that matter, I usually teleport to the Rellekka cave via the Ring of Slaying and then use that fairy ring...so, there's yet another way.

The thing is, this argument has taken many forms. There are an infinite amount of ways to get to any one spot, depending on where the player is at the moment and the things they have access to.

I think one or two of the absolutely quickest methods are all that are necessary...it's just tips...not a compendium of every method of travel. Those are my two cents.

To be honest, I never meant for an argument to even arise. I have noticed on tonnes of quests that alternative travel methods have been included, and felt that making use of the rings should be added to the guide as I certainly found them very useful.

I probably would use the fairy rings to get there, too, but if I didn't have access to them yet, I'd probably do the carpet rides thing.

I think that this would be a great idea. Even if FTP2 isn't a requirement for the quest, it can easily be included in the Tips and Tricks section, just for, what seems like a faster mode of transportation. Seems pretty simple to me.

To the Crew staff, any input on the matter?

I first want to say that I don't get the discussion posted above about something so small which could be done with a few sentences.

But never mind that. it already happened.

I think it would be great to have this as a tip/trick. for people who have started/done FTP2, mainly because so many people would do it that way if they knew it is faster.
