How2PK
Now there is a new forum about movies and music, and we can start with a clean slate, I think it would be good if we would start up some central topics to keep things organized. for example: [central] Upcoming album releases [central] Pop (for general discussion of pop music) [central] Rock (for general discussion of rock music) etc. Then maybe one of the moderators could make a sticky with the locations of the central topics, that isn't too much work, I think (I could be awefully mistaken though, if it is a lot of work I am willing to search all the locations and make the layout for the topic and that you just post it as a sticky). That way we won't have the same topic comming up xx times every month and thus keeping our forum a bit clean instead of all the good topics getting bumped down by locked topics, we can prevent a lot of flaming, the mods will have less work on modding the forum. What does everybody think? I didn't really know where to put it, so I just did it in the forum. And since this forum is completely new: maybe it isn't a bad idea to open a temporary/permanent suggestion topic, where the users can openly discuss and give suggestions to the moderating team on things to improve the forum, you never know who comes up with things others might not think of. :) I'm just shooting some ideas for the new forum, I don't know what other users and the moderators think. I might be a bit too enthousiastic, but I think it would be really great if we (the users and mods) could make a top-class forum of this! :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! insane
Excellent ideas, I'd really like to see some of these implemented - after all, the four mods of this board are really excited for it too, and would like to see it a "first-class board" as you say! So please, "suggestion" away! (btw, I used 'clean slate' to describe how i saw this too :P) I also think the topic about what to talk about on the music and movies board, will help clear some things up, and make this a better forum ;)
How2PK
Great to see we've got a very open minded start of the forum! And what a coincidence about the clean slate, lol. I think the what to talk about is a great way to direct us and give a kick off to the new forum! Gonna think of a good movie to see for you tonight! :D [edit] A now playing topic, is that allowed, or not? ____
Daan for mod of this forum  On a more serious note, I like the idea of 'Central ' topics. And I'd really like something close to the following be added to the rule-set: No bashing of bands, genres, movies, artists, actors, etc anywhere. Posts of said nature will be removed and depending on severity and cause, suitable action taken* [edit] And I know that rule is in there already but given the nature of this forum... at least take a hard line to it. (Consider it as being as bad as racial or such attacks perhaps?). [/edit] * by suitable action could just be warning or added to a new usergroup** ** A new usergroup be created which can be used to stop people accessing this forum if they keep casuing trouble in ANY manner. Now that I think about it, OT could probably do with something like that aswell...
How2PK
I think the bashing point Rick makes is very good, since this is an art forum it is very (to some extend) opinion orientated, and thus the line between bashing and giving criticism (sp?) should be very clear, as for the penalties given to rule breakers, that's up to the mod/admin team, I think. ____
Something else, can people PLEASE link to imdb when talking about movies. At least for the movies. If you want to link to profiles of people feel free, but at least the movie :x And, a sticky of online sources for finding out info on tours, conerts and such would be nice aswell (much like the list of places to buy stuff online in T&C). wl_daniel
Nice work daan :D  It's a good idea to make a central topic about pop, rock and release dates! :D Since everybody knows pop and rock and that they have a big history. Maybe a forum top 10 of the week to :D Or something like 'de dagtop 10' bijv. :) You know what I'm talking about and that will make the this part of the forum active and there would be always a nice discussion about music. :D Btw. Did you ever thought about a hardcore topic as a sticky:lol:

Did you ever thought about a hardcore topic as a sticky:lol: Heh, I think a day top 10 would be a bit hard, since we've kind of got the international bariere, for example Robbie Williams who scores high in Dutch pop top lists is not popular in America. Maybe we could do a monthly top 40 or something, but I still think that would be very hard, and a lot of work. Those [central] topics were just examples, a "dance" topic covering techno, trance, club, Drum n' Bass, Hardcore, a rap topic, a country topic etc. All central topics stickified in one topic. wl_daniel
Are the central topics getting sticky'd? And you're right a day top 10 is going to be to hard,,since there is a great difference in time. And a monthly top 40 would just be perfect :D That's enough time to get 40 numbers all over the world. How2PK
Are the central topics getting sticky'd? I was aiming for one topic that is stickified, where you can find a link to all the central topics. Otherwise we would have a massive sticky part of the forum, lol. :P Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! I like that, for example if no1 is posting in a pop topic it's still easy to find and there is no reason at all than for spam topics :D Nice work 8)
Bubsa
How long has this been here? Please don't tell me I'm losing my mind...again  This new forum will be brilliant! I really hope the suggestions already mentioned can be hitherto abided by all and we can get a really really decent thing going here :) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. I really hope the suggestions already mentioned can be hitherto abided by all and we can get a really really decent thing going here :) It's been here all today :) About these suggestions, I agree with rick's about the being against bashing of bands/movies etc. It's something I don't like myself so will hopefully be editing the rules slightly. To Daan, hit me on msn tomorrow so I can talk about this central topic sticky idea. It does sound usefull, just need to understand a few things about it first though :P To everyone else: keep up with the great suggestions :P

Hannibal
Hrm, I like the idea of this forum :). I can't see myself using it a great lot, but I'm sure many will like it. One thing I noticed is rick pointing out people should link to imdb when discussing movies. I'd like to know if there's a similar site for music, and if it would be possible to add a syntax such as Elizabethtown , which would get linked automatically? I'm guessing there will be some phpbb mods for it, if not, maybe you could ask around on the tech and computers forum if one could be made? I'm sure we've got enough techies who could do so. It'd make things easier. I like the central topics idea, and especially the idea of having a place to discuss new movies seems like a good idea. Maybe it would be possible to have a topic auto-created (or just created by the mods on a standard basis) listing all premiering movies with a short description, every week? All this release data and descriptions and stuff could probably be pulled of sites like imdb or other fansites. The same could be done for music, I suppose, but it would be harder because in general, people are less excited about the releases of new music. :)
indy500fan
i like hannibals suggestion if there was a way to make it work. when im replying in the last movie thread, i normally dont bother linking to imdb, because its a bother. i have the search at the top of ff, but still i have search for the movie, find it, then copy the link and work out the bbcode. its really annoying. i dont suppose theres a way to create something, like movie name , where you can type the movie name, highlight it, click on a movie button, it puts those tags around it, and those tags make "movie name" into a link that searches on imdb for that movie, and links you to the result? if that didnt make any sence, example: i type "kill bill", then highlight and click the movie bbcode button. now my post looks like kill bill . i then post the topic, and everyone sees kill bill ****in this case it didnt return one result, but adding the date after the movie should yeild the right search result. if you dont know the exact date, not searching for it, but putting it after the "kill bill " like "kill bill the 2000s one" will give people a good enough idea to find it. **** basically, the bbcode translated kill bill into kill bill so that would be like movienamevariable translates to movienamevariable i know i probably didnt explain that well, and i dont know if it can work or not, but if someone knows what im talking about and can explain it better, please do so. Mercifull
That would be using the "Custom BBcode mod" :D Very useful mod and is even going to be in the vanilla version of phpBB3 Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. indy500fan
That would be using the "Custom BBcode mod" :D Very useful mod and is even going to be in the vanilla version of phpBB3 when is that coming out? hopefully it makes everything run smother too. anyways, after looking at the redvsblue topic, i think a decision should be made wether or not tv shows really fit here or not. normal tv shows, its easy to make the decision, they do not belong here. but internet tv shows really dont normally start as tv shows, they are more of a movie short made by an independant director. they happen to be around the length of a tv show, but are not usually planned on having more. so the question is, do shorts go here or in OT, and if they go here, should we take in all tv shows here so as to not cause confusion? How2PK
A tournament team. I have noticed that tournaments are pretty popular around the forums, and they're aren't held on a regular base, and the moderators have better things to do than keeping tournaments all the time, it might be a good idea to introduce a tournament team on these forums. It will be a team that people can sign up for on volentary base, the purpose of this team will be taking care of tournaments and various other 'events' held on the music and movies forum. Atleast, that's the basic idea. What does everybody think of this, what could be a better way to work it out? Is this possible to realize? stevester77
A tournament team. I'd be willing to volunteer for the team, depending on exactly what it would require. Which leads me to ask, other than throwing out ideas for possible tournaments, what role would these users actually play in the development of tournaments? Rizla
Here's a suggestion; how about banning people that have nothing more to contribute than insulting others for their opinions? I don't think i've seen a thread on this board get past 3 pages without degenerating into a slagging match between what seems to be the same group of people in every single thread. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
How2PK
I agreee, though I must admitt that I catch myself doing it too, sometimes. But sometimes people are just so, bah, they realy piss me off, I can't ignore it. Though I know I should. I just think that aside from the "what movie did you last see" topic, this forum is a waste of space. Every thread ends up the same way so it puts me off from posting anywhere to begin with. There are a few good topics. But the subjects of most topics are really repetive as well, especially music wise. Most of it is just about "hardcore" or "Emo" or "Metal". There should be a better system on when you can open what kind of topic. Personally I don't find it worth the effort anymore to write a somewhat longer post about a specific band, as it'll get a few replies by people saying they're good or they suck. It just seems like a complete waste of time. I put some effort in a tournament topic, but when you actually need to write a reply to vote it doesn't seem to be succesful either. Everybody started this forum with good hope. But it didn't become very succesful. Atleast, not how I would've wanted to see it. Maybe my expectations were too high.
