pretty much every "fps" game i play, i have a higher ping. on css its not too much higher, only around 60-70, when it was ~12 before. and on crossfire, my ping went from ~35 to ~220. i've searched 5 diff forums, googled around, posted on the forums of crossfire hoping some1 knows what to do, but nothing. im hoping some1 here knows what to do, this forum is probably the smartest one i've gone to. lol.

so yeah, thanks for reading this.

Get a better internet connection.

internet connection has nothing to do with it...

:wall:

your trying to tell me it is? no. your wrong. my internet connection has been the same since i had my old computer, which had windows xp. now that i got a new computer with windows 7 all my pings have gone up.

i've googled "high ping windows 7" and im not the only one with the problem.

Internet speed has nothing to do with it. Internet connection does. Ping (Packet Internet Groper) tells you the time it takes for a packet of data to be sent to the server and returned. Typically Broadband and tier service has really good connections since more data can be sent over the fiber optic/coaxial lines, resulting in lower ping. Your ping issue could be that the data packet you send to the game server/receive could be passing through a bad server. There are a lot of possibilities.

Do you have a wireless router? You could have a neighbor whom is stealing your bandwidth. I had that problem until I banned external user MAC addresses.

Go to speedtest.net, and run the test then post your results.

no one is stealing my internet btw, i have a wpa2 protection thing on it, and yes, the router is wireless.

i did the pingtest thing too.

edit: i chose canada btw, because 1. its far away, hopefully showing any issues. 2. canada is where the crossfire server is located

I consistently get under 50 ping on any N. American server using that website and I live in Alaska, this is also on Windows 7. I would say its your problem, not windows 7.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

Check the ports on the game and see if your computer's firewall has them open/closed.

uhh...since idk how to do that, ill just shut the firewall off for a few mins to try a game.

btw, i turned my router off, then back on, and no change =\

ok, so i googled around and found a solution. disabling my sound card. but i have no sound now...but my ping is back to normal...whyy does it have to be sound =[[...

What was the problem? If it was something to do with the driver (don't see why/how but whatever) then you may be able to get a newer version, which would enable you to have your low ping and sound too.

the problem was (idk how...but..) with the sound card enabled, my ping goes anywhere from 140-220+ (in crossfire) and when i disabled it, it was normal, 35. so im not sure if buying a new sound card or getting diff sound card drivers would fix it or not

Hmm, I was hoping for a little more comprehensive of a solution than that.

Try updating the drivers, but I'm inclined to doubt it would fix the problem. Don't buy a new sound card, as if he is having the same problem (guy on that forum) it's highly unlikely he has the same sound card.

Also try to install all the windows updates...other than that you may be out of sound until microsoft fixes whatever the problem is.

Oh and you could try to run the game in XP mode, and see if that helps.

In the properties for that program (the [Caution: Executable File] or shortcut) there should be a checkbox saying "run in xp mode" or else a drop down, "run in compatability mode for".
