Research on improved artillery, and 'perfect' mirrors begin. Is the second one possible, Archi? It would be a coating or shield that acts as a perfect mirror, with down to nearly the atom no imperfections, making it the perfect antilaser. Would be backed by aerogel in order to insulate whatever's behind it as well.

That would be impossible, Doom. Surfaces will always be uneven and imperfect; this is why "frictionless surfaces" do not exist.

 

Also, if dust or any sort of abrasive contacts the mirror, it would be rendered useless (assuming you could do it).

 

Just ain't practical. Even in space, it would be scratched by particles.
