The hate of opinion contradicts the hate of rankings

Featured Replies

Disdain born from a stonewalling system of rankings in the yesteryears had left a long-lasting memory in the minds of many 'old-schoolers'. It's hard to remember a time when a ranking system was fluid and perfect because everyone shared a common goal: getting fights and having fun, showing strength by some good ol' classic 'Scaping. These old fogies have passed their hatred down the generations, creating their own 'social standard' for ranking refusal.

Yet oddly enough, on the same side of the coin, people intently watch subjective rankings--then bemoan when people rank them higher/lower than they feel they should be as a means of 'propaganda'. Propaganda that, might I add, was driven by the opinion of a few and inevitably caught on/was spread. These are given a higher opinion because the community sets these things. It's a wonderful concept...in theory. This generation, however, knows the cruel reality of it: people are fickle and ill-informed. It personally reminds me of a very decrepit political information system in which biased media stations spout misinformation so they get elected.

So why do we continually contradict ourselves like this? Why do we say we hate unbiased ranking systems yet we place so much stock in the very obviously biased community-ranked systems?

Times change, and are we well overdue for one ourselves? Who will make the first step? What are your thoughts?

If you fought the norm, you would be considered an outcast. You can't really stray from the path without someone trying to stop you.. That's just how humans are.

It's quite interesting to watch, though, It happens in real life as well. Think about it the next time you're out with your friends, you'll find quite a bit of their conversations very relative ^.^

With that said, it IS the time for the old level of respect to return. I get quite angry with a lot of the older members, who act like the younger players. This sort of "perpetual" motion is what keeps bad(or good) habits/beliefs in place. To stop it, you're going to need to be VERY influential, or have a large amount of help along side you :)

Clans would rather have that reputation over their enemies and will do anything to get the general public on their side. It's sad at times but it happens and for the most part you can be one of three people:

1. One who follows the propaganda against another clan and supports it

2. One who ignores it all together

3. One who tries to backfire it/debate it

Interesting topic not sure what else to say atm :l

These people existed in the past, though. It's not like propaganda is a new thing though. It's just that without an effective ranking system as a backbone, all there is is propaganda.

Yet people whine. It baffles me. Why do clan officials play that 'game'?

Some officials are tough as nails, can call to beat all hell, and make the smartest decisions to lead a clan...yet when it comes to ranks/tournaments/etc it seems like not a lot are willing to step up and try something new.

Well back then there was still more "Honnor" or "Respect" around in clans, more pking, overall fun was the goal. Also I guess it wasn't so controversial. Now we have limited worlds so third parties make a huge difference, corrupt items etc, and generally returning wars.

Times have defiantly changed and it's not the top 10 clans that will make the change. Smaller clans are willing to try out ranked systems as it's more clear who the winner is. Top 10 clans either a. don't like cwa or b. afraid that they might lose to some one in cwa or something im not sure.

Overall I think they'd rather have full control of how the clan world ranks them rather than going into a ranking system and take the risk of being ranked below of what they're used to.

"all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"

I think that most of the so called "Top 10" clans don't enjoy CWA to the same extent that they enjoy pking. They don't feel the need to be ranked- they're all to caught up in their silly little game of clan politics. Leave them to it. They stagnate alone and refusal to adapt will be their downfall. All they can do is spread the propaganda which we've all heard a million times before.

Ranking systems were first joined by many for a fast bit of fun; it was much easier to et up wars with them. Other people were attracted because they liked the idea of power - they can work to the top of that ranking system and be proud of it- that inevitably is going to attract people who like power to their clan.

TWR is really the intermediate of the clanning world- stronger than most- but not as strong as RAW was in it's prime. But we all seen what RAW turned into didn't we? At least here there's some sense of community shared by everyone no matter how loose it is. Things come and go but I'm confident TWR and it's members will be here for a long while yet :)

Look guys... I absolutely must be a mass baby-seal murderer!

If the top 10 used a ranking system that was even moderately fair, and the true power was really #1 and #2 etc, the fear and discord they would spread to smaller clans when they have PKRI's wouldn't be as great. Clans like VR thrive off every clans fear of them crashing, and that's really how they rose to become the #1 F2P clan, before they sank back down to the same level as other top 5 clans. If their was a ranking system that showed "oh hey DF is better then VR" people wouldn't be as scared of VR because they know DF would probably be tracking them and hitting them, and if they are higher in a fair ranking how could they possibly lose?

It's the lack of a ranking system that makes the top 5 seem a million times stronger than they actually are, and that propaganda that they all spread really does do it's job in making smaller/medium sized clans afraid of being crashed.

I have lived my life to the best of my ability, but I have not been able to escape fate, anger, or pain.

Bring me the answers, and the road that leads to truth, reveal to me once and for all, how all of this will end.

Shadows cannot exist without the light. But without the shadows, the light has no meaning.

Nothing offending meant towards any clan but I personally think that the more smaller clans have less problems, are more interested and open for new things and they won't easily be complaining about the ranking system while bigger and more popular clans would have more trouble/different opinions with/about it.

Personally I think these people who don't completely agree with ranking systems should step up now or quit complaining about it since I can imagine how annoying it must be for moderators to hear they disagree with it YET they can't come up with more solid ideas/reasons for a more sufficent ranking system.

Also I do get annoyed with the fact people/clans take part of a ranking system(/ or a tournament for example) but don't bring up the effort to take actively part in it, I honestly do not see what's the contribution of your clan to that ranking system(/tournament) then?

And Rhys has a point when he says that the top 10 clans don't enjoy/put as much as effort in CWA as in PK'ing.

Clans want an unbiased ranking system as long as they're #1. If they lose it or have no chance of holding it/making it then they find reasons to tear it down. On the other hand, public opinion can easily be swayed so that you "appear" #1 by virtue of the fact that you have more sheep who will follow what you tell them is right. It's also a classic case of wanting what's bad for you and not wanting what's good. The problem is every ranking system has flaws so no system can be perfect that people can agree is THE ranking to decide everything. It leaves everything entirely into a system where opinion has no sway.

With love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.

I would say it is very difficult to have a ranking system (in PvP/BH worlds at least) because of crashing, multis, in general rule breakings. Yes it would be better to have an offical ranking system based on clan performance. However it is virtually impossible to do so. If a clan loses in a PKRI, the losing clan will make claims such as how the winning clan cheated and break rule X, Y and Z. Unless clans are willing to act more professionally, I see no future in a ranking system.

I guess some(a lot) of people just enjoy childish bickerings.

Being a 'CWA Prod' I wouldn't know too much about about the way the old clan world used to work and how the aspects of honour and respect were shown, but I have a rough idea of how it differs from today's generation. I'm not sure if there's ever been a rankings except RAW that's ever ranked the top clans among it. The reason so many people put their stock into biased community rankings is because one, it gives them a sense of empowerment, not being an official or anything but being able to affect the way others think too just because they're in the same clan. Another reason is because like others have said, a proper rankings for the top 10 would be basically impossible to moderate. That's because of the physical structure of PVP, in contrast to CWA. How could you possibly moderate a 20 man sniper cap? How could someone claim an autowin or get a rematch just because of one boundary at equal options. It would just be impossible.

I find it funny how people can suggest how to make a better rankings for CWA, when they're in a clan that primarily does PVP who don't enjoy CWA as much as what 'CWA Prods' like myself do. Propaganda is a powerful thing amongst today's generation. If a clan from the top 10 is caught in a CWA war for example, then the replies for winning would be more like "rofl CWA", or "that's where we sent you". This propaganda can spread and almost catch fire in a place like RSC, due to the unpopularity of clan wars. I personally think clans would rather not do CWA to help save their image of being a Top 10 "PVP Clan". So, this personally brings me to the opinion that clans don't do CWA not because they don't enjoy it, but because it would make them look bad in a biased community of pkers. Therefore a rankings system amongst top 10 clans will never happen because of how bad PVP wars are structured for it, and the fact clans won't step 'down' and do CWA to see who's the best in these rankings. Clans and their members think they know who's the best, but oftenly use their opinion to make a clan like worse or better than what they really are.

The hate of opinion contradicts the hate of rankings because of the propaganda clans can inflict upon others and upon the clan world as a whole in my opinion. Rankings are impossible among clans who pride themselves with the tag of being a 'PVP Clan' which automatically makes them better, and feel as if that if they do step 'down' to CWA then they are getting worse. Clans may hate the other clan's opinions about who is ranked where, but for most top 10 clans I think they let their talking speak on the battlefield and try to net let the propaganda get to them.

Times change, but things won't whilst RSC exists. Usually in a community, those who present a good image of themselves and control their members will often be favourites amongst the regular posters. However, with RSC it really isn't like that, it's due to propaganda and imaginery rankings that make members have their own favourites, showing the power of propaganda and why the hate of opinion contradicts the hate of rankings. I can't see any clan making the first step anytime soon until this power that propaganda has been diminished in some way shape or form, which in my eyes would mean harsher moderation but which wouldn't take the 'drama' out of why people post.
