Saru Inc
hi guys  Ok so around october I decided to well, not be a [kitty]. Instead of hating being fat while eating a big mac (ok, so that wasn't me... Still it reminded me of in the nutty professor. Hah. too funny...) so I just started what I call the Common Sense diet. I greatly decreased my soda intake, greatly reduced my fast food intake, and started exercising. I've lost about 50 lbs in about 4 months, which even though that's pretty pitiful (10lbs a month...) some months I ate a lot of junk food. Anyways, this is currently my exercise routine: Run 1.5 miles a day80 reverse crunches30 pushupsand 90 dumbbell curls. (15 lbs dumbells each) Anyways, what I do is I run the whole 1.5 miles a day at once ofc. But someone said it was good to spread exercise out... so I do 40 reverse crunches, 15 pushups, and 45 dumbell curls in the morning, and all those + 1.5 miles at night. And I'm just not losing weight anymore. Which is kind of aggravating since I thought I'd have lost more weight by the summer. Anyways, I digress: Is that an efficient way to do it? (Splitting up the exercises instead of doing at once) And what are some easy moves to do with dumbbells besides curling? Hah I have *no* money for gym memberships, and the 15 lbs ones are the only in the house... I really want to broaden my exercises, but am not really sure how. I bought the ifitness for my itouch, and that helps but can get pretty confusing. Anyways;I'm allergic to about 35 different foods (somewhere around 35 cbf to remember them all.) and they are mainly the reason I'm overweight, because when I eat them the body stores them. Yea I don't understand it either, all I know is the doctor was a specialist in my condition (Candidasis)so ye. And around Feb 17 or so I decided to stop eating all my allergy foods, and so I bascially ate the atkins diet on steroids (I'm allergic to wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs etc.) and lost a crap load of weight. However, the food I was eating was organic and VERY expensive. Holy [cabbage] it was expensive. I mean I noticed I exercised easier and faster, and I didn't have this *dead look* on my face like I usually do... But it was so damn expensive, that after a month I quit it. And even though I'm losing weight still, I've basically plateau'd. Which is depressing XD. Anyways, I got a new job in an office, with a nice dating prospect who's shown interest, so naturally I kinda want to kick this into overdrive L. Which brings me to part II of the post. Are there any *healthy* microwaveable meals out there? For dinner I currently eat the Lean Cuisine Chicken Parmesan (freakin amazing  )some carrots, an apple and some pretzels. But I looked and whatddya know, the meal is packed with sodium. Kinda shoulda seen that coming. I would really prefer a nice healthy cheap food, as no [cabbage], I LOVE organic healthy foods, and I *hate* fried/fast foods. But they are so damn cheap. And Now that I found out I can't get federal aid for college because my dad makes $65,000 a year I really have to cut down on expenses. I've tried that whole Amy's line of organic foods, and those are gross. heh. But I'm open to any suggestions. Ok if all my rambling on/run on sentences have left you shaken, let me summarize: Quick easy ways to broaden my exercising at home Cheap healthy *yummy* organic food, these microwaveable foods aren't cutting it. Thanks so much! I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Cacmypants
I lost a lot of weight simply by cutting soft-drinks out of my usual intake, and power walking 4-10km at 6%-12% incline on the treadmil every second day. Also, excersise bikes are excellent for building up lower body strength (developed muscles burn fat faster/more efficiently just to operate, and your legs have some of the biggest muscles in the body)
Saru Inc
Yea. I love bycling, I might save up for a rec center membership solely for that, but at the moment I'm living off of lean cuisines that I buy w/ my mom's visa, and food I can rummage for the house. I'm 6'3" as well, and a regular bike works perfectly fine for me. Just adjust the seat, on some bikes you can probably adjust the handle bars as well. One thing I can suggest is just to start increasing you physical activity; start doing sprints and more physically demanding activities, go to a public pool and swim there. Also, if we know what exactly you're allergic to, we can help you find foods that you can eat. Although if you really want good diet advice, I'd suggest trying to go to your doctor. Yeah, you may want to lose more, but losing more weight in a short amount of time can be quit unhealthy. Don't have any advice to post, but damn this guy is right. 50lbs in 4 months is a lot of lost weight. And IIRC, the first x pounds are easiest to lose, and then the weight loss slows down. Myweponsg00d
I'm sorry to tell you this, but I will tell you what your doctors probably didn't. I'm betting your condition came from eating processed foods. The food industry injects our "food" with various preservatives, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors....plenty of other chemicals. This stuff is killing us. Go back to your organic diet. It might seem expensive, but obviously your body responds great to it. Or, you could pick the "cheap" food, which will continue to detriment your health. In the long run, you're gonna end up paying even more due to medical problems in the future. Organic food is cheap, considering that it is saving your life. Think of it this way. Anything that isn't organic is just a product. It is a product being sold by a company that wants to make as much money as possible. They give you the cheapest stuff possible and then jack up the price as much as possible. Organic food is food, not a product. They give you good, wholesome, nutritious food that will help your body become healthier. Preservatives were invented to save money for companies, not to feed your body. Don't eat chemicals. Eat food. Need assistance in any of these skills? Saru Inc
I started out @ 297 lbs at 6'3" now I'm roughly 245 same height. (Not. Weighed myself in like a week lol) actually weponsgood, I got candidasis. As do many others by having too many antibiotics in my body @ 1 time so my immunesystem shut down. When I was born I was very sick and in icu for 3 weeks. That's why :P but like not sure you understand (no offence I really do appreciate the help). But I only have $20 until next Friday, and that's when I get my paycheck for $400 roughlt, and then I owe the irs $400, a carpayment of $200 and phone/insurance of $400 as well but college in august which I can't do fasfa for. Myweponsg00d
Wow that sucks..But honestly if you are on a budget, pre-cooked frozen meals seem like a really expensive thing to do. Especially lean cuisine. You could save a lot of money by making your own meals in advance and then microwaving them at lunch. Plus you could avoid some perservatives which surely will not help your sensitive system. Could you clarify something for me though? You say you have allergies to tomato, and dairy. But you say you like Lean Cuisine Chiken Parmesean. Is there some foods you need to avoid more than others? Chicken parm has tomato and cheese. Need assistance in any of these skills? Saru Inc
First off, the reason why my above post was so garbled was because I was writing on my fail phone. It has the weirdest grammar rules.. Anyways, the only reason I do Lean Cuisines is because my mom said she'd pay for them XD. But anyways I'm not following my *allergy* diet at all atm, and at my supermarket literally the only ones they have are chicken Parmesan, this weird stuffed dish, chicken, rice, carrots and peas stir fry,(which is what I had tonight) and pizza. Heh You should see what my coworkers eat. [cabbage]. Like triple whoppers with cheese and those funnel cake things. Eww. Cheese on burgers is gross. As is mayo (in general) And yea on my old diet I still worked at my old job at a restaurant, so I could get the food there for free that was healthy, and on my *allergy* diet. However now that food is like $10 a meal. So thats a no-go. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Myweponsg00d
If you wanna talk cheap, healthy eating...it doesn't get much better than fruits and vegetables. Bananas are 69 cents per pound. Apples are usually around a dollar per pound. Other high value produce includes potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, carrots, cucumbers, and celery. I'm sure theres also plenty of stuff I forgot to include too. If you want to start bringing these things to work, one thing you are going to need is plenty of good tupperware containers. These will help you take fast and easy meals on the go. For example, my Sunday nights are usually spent peeling, cutting, cooking, and packing my meals for the next 5 days. I am busy during the week, and I know that if I don't have my healthy foods ready to go, I might have no time to cook and end up buying a fast food meal.. So I cube up 1 or 2 canteloupes, 10 stalks of celery, slice up about 5 apples (toss them in some lemon juice so they dont brown), etc. You can also do things like hard boil eggs in advance. I also like to make some type of chicken or tuna salad and keep that in a tupperware container. Then, I will take the tuna salad and either eat it plain, eat it with some celery, or put it on a sandwich. I even make entrees in advance, like grilled chicken breast. I love sweet potatoes. On sunday I bake 5 sweet potatos in the oven, and then wrap them in plastic wrap and keep them in the fridge for the week. So if you wanted to have a healthy lunch ready for work, you could prepare these things on Sunday and then they would be ready to grab out of the fridge on any morning. You could wake up, and grab your grilled chicken out of the fridge, and grab a vegetable to go with it. Then just put it in the fridge at work and you are good to go. Iamdan
Before you start an organic food diet, watch the episode of penn and teller: [cabbage] about organic food. Eating healthy on the cheap is easy. Oats and fruit or an omelette for breakfast, nuts for snacks. Brown rice and tuna for lunch with fruit and raw vegetables. ugafan_2009
I kind of did the same thing. I put on about 10 pounds freshman year of college and I decided to eat a little healthier this summer. I lost about 15 pounds(now I only weigh 150, so I need to bulk up some, I went from being pudgy to being scrawny, but I'll worry about that when I get back to college and have gym access. I basically cut out soft drinks(I have like one a week maybe), and tried to get something healthier when I go get lunch after work. I was running for about 2 months, but I got my wisdom teeth off and had to take a week off and haven't started back. But I haven't put on any weight since I quit running, and it doesn't really bug me because I don't want to lose any more. Wow, my girlfriend has almost identical allergies. I can attest to the fact that it's really hard to eat according to those, and a lot of organic food is really expensive. In terms of "tasty organic food, soy food etc" you really just need to hunt around, trying different things. A lot of that stuff is great for you health wise, but tastes like crap. Occasionally we will wander onto something decent tasting though. EDIT: I don't know about your allergies, but she definitely has "degrees" here. For example a lot of the stuff will just make her feel mildly ill (upset stomach) whereas if she eats dairy she gets really sick. Range_This11
If you want to burn fat, you have to exercise for longer, not harder. Sprints, weights, and sit-ups will not burn fat but will instead tone your body. Keep doing those and increase the amount of time (not necessarily the difficulty) you are running, walking, cycling, or whatever. Iamdan
Sprints, weights, and sit-ups will not burn fat but will instead tone your body. /facepalm Toning means burning fat. Running longer rather than harder does pretty much nothing for weight loss. You burn the calories you ate today, hit a wall and then stop and eat. Sprints and weights are the best way to lose weight. Saru Inc
yea..... so, I'm beyond broke. So for the past few weeks i've been living off of the wendy super value meal, and taco bell 2 dolla deal. Which surprisingly, is pretty damn cheap. But it kinda stagnated my weight loss. So I started two days ago to stop eating fast food. I don't even like the taste of fast food anymore, I seriously have been craving healthy food, but I can't be bothered going to a walmart 50 miles away for fresh food, because all the produce at our nearby stores literally looks like someone stepped on them. But yeah, now I run 2 miles (well, 1.5-2 miles, depending on if I feel like running or not),then 60 situps (reverse)/pushups and a crap load of exercises using dumbells. aquariusman
You can also substitute potatoes for the rice if you want a change, maybe even throw in some onions and peppers for flavour. Another meal you could make: Ground beef/ChickenTortilla (Made from corn meal)Red/Green peppersOnion Cook the beef or chicken in a frying pan. While that's cooking, dice up the peppers and onions, until you have about 3/4 of a cup. When the meat is done cooking, take out the meat and throw the diced vegetables in the pan, with a touch of olive oil. The veggies will cook in a couple minutes. Mix it all together in a bowl and wrap it up in a tortilla. This tastes great and takes about 20 minutes to make. Also, if you're going to eat something, and want some veggies, frying up sliced peppers and mushrooms and quartered onions tastes great and is ridiculously quick to make. You can even throw in some zucchini. Something you should do is look into recipes that revolve around rice and chicken, they'd probably be the best suited to you allergies, along with the cheapest. There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. Free weights will achieve weight loss too, as long as you know how much to eatNo, it is right. Intense, short workouts burn carbs but long, continuous workouts burn fat. And like I said, free-weights are great if you want to tone up the area you're working out, but if you want general fat burning you have to have some sort of long cardio session. Here's an article: How hard you are moving during exercise is one major determinant of which fuel your body will use. Carbs provide a faster energy source. So whenever you need to do something fast or produce force, carbs are the better fuel. Fats are favored during long, low-intensity activities. It’s not that you stop using one or the other fuel, it’s that the ratio of both shifts depending on your activity. In more scientific terms, you alternate between aerobic (more fat-burning) and anaerobic (more carb-burning) metabolism. Article I'm sorry, but those of you that think you're losing more weight by doing windsprints are sadly mistaken. Yes, it can help you lose weight, but long cardio sessions will burn more fat. Oh and here's another tidbit for all you "I must run fast to burn more weight" people: Running and Walking burn similar calories per mile Obviously, if you look at the chart, a person running at 10 mph is burning significantly more calories per hour than someone walking only 2 mph. My point is that the difference between say 4 and 7 mph is NOT that large, but the work required to run 7 mph and walk 4 mph is. And I think that is what speed most people tend to work out at.
