Howlin0001
Why does my Laptop battery last only like twenty minutes (yes the battery would be fully charged)? It has only started to last this length for about week (since I came back from college). Can anyone help me? My laptop is around a year and five months old. Carl
Do you keep it plugged in when you're using it? (As if it were a desktop?) RIP Michaelangelopolous
Howlin0001
Well yea but when the battery is finished charging I plug out the battery.
Diesel
I had to replace my laptop battery in about that amount of time. Actually, according to the messages I'm getting now, it's about time to replace it again. I think I'll just wait to get a whole new laptop. Laura
Generally how much would a new battery cost?Depends on the amount of cells. Usually they do not exceed $100 USD.

My Asus is now 2 years old and the battery still lasts ~3 hours. Brand new it lasted ~3:30. As for OP: have you tried making it run completely out of battery? Sometimes it's all it needs. You don't usually need to keep it out of the laptop though.

Battery manufacturers are pretty much the same across the board. More importantly, however, is how the battery is treated. For instance, how often it is calibrated, left to charge, used, etc. My HP lasted less than 20 minutes with a 9 cell battery after two years because I rarely ever used it unplugged (it was too heavy for me to carry around). The same thing might happen to my MacBook because it is plugged in 90% of the time and, since I bought it, I have only put 90 cycles on it. Jeffwilson99
Wait so if I understand this correctly, it's quite good to let the batter drain and charge quite often? I try not to keep it charging all the time, and often let it drain right down, then charge it up. Mine lasts about and hour and a half to two hours on high performance, I never really bother putting the power saver mode on...

For Li-ion, batteries should charged and discharged often for maximum retention. The general advice I have for others is not to worry about it; it's not worth fretting over or changing your normal routine.
Sbrideau
Meh, I usually have my laptop plugged in though, so it really depends on the battery.
Diesel
I've never been the most efficient battery user. I ordered it directly from Dell, so probably a Dell battery. Last.Fm My Bloggy Proud to have served on Tip.it Crew
