someone_els
If you dont want to read most my babbling, dont read until you see me say PINOCCHIO Over the past year and a half, Runscape has evolved at an exponential rate. Dozens and dozens of new quests, equipment, items, places, and even minigames have come out since the release of RS2. If you look on the official RuneScape World Map, you can see the black, unfilled area has gotten smaller and smaller over the months. This astounding rate of advancement begs once question to be asked: How much further can it go? Let's consider Runescape Classic. Rune armor and weapons were unquestionably dominant, and those who had it were held in the highest respect. Mages were still stuck with mage robes, and rangers with leather. In a few months, the Dragon Longsword was introduced, ushering in the RSC Dragon Age. The Dragon Dagger, Battleaxe, Mace, Med Helm, and Square Shield, after completing Legend's Quest (correct me if d sq.'s weren't in rsc, i'm going off of my pricate research here). The Underground Pass quest gave mages the incredibly powerful Iban Blast. Several less meaningful quests were also created. Not very much for RuneScape Classic, Eh? A nice, steady, and generally unchanging environment. Of course there was a reason for this. Jagex were working on the all-new 3D RuneScape 2, which was finally released into the public. THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is where life in RuneScape really began to spice up, for better or for worse. An innumerable amount of updates have flooded into RuneScape 2 since its release. To name a few: Several new dragon items, halberds, claws, spears, RuneCrafting, Dragonhide, Crystal Items, Fremminik helms, Prayer Books, a whole lotta minigames including fishing trawler, Duel Arena, Mage Arena, Castle Wars, Holiday Events, Magic Bows, Slayer Skill, Farming Skill, more powerful poisons, Cook X, Armored Boots, Abyssal Whips, Granite Mauls, Treasure Trails, Morytania, Elven Lands, Miscellania, Keldagrim, The Kalphite Queen, Dragon Chain, Dragon Legs, The Wise Old Man,TzHaar and their Obsidian items, Ancient Magics, Splitbark Armor, Mystic Robes, Waterbirth Armor, Dagganoth Kings, The Fight Pits and the Fire Cape, BARROWS, and many, many, many others. As you see, dragon items began to replace Rune Items, and Barrows items began to replace Dragon items. The Obsidian Cape replaced the Legends cape, and the Fire Cape replaced the Obsidian cape (at least, those able to get it). Abyssal whips would make dragon weapons obsolete, if it weren't for its inability to train strength. Many new items were nerfed, such as the MSB, Rune Thrown Axe, Granite Maul, and Abyssal whip. The wilderness became more interesting with Barrows, Ancient magicks, and the Seercull bow. Whether or not my above evidence is closely enough related to my point, I shall express it nonetheless... Ahem... PINOCCHIO My Point: Yes, RuneScape is an incredibly diverse and complex game with seemingly endless possibilities, but, what is left? after carpentry and POH's come, what is there left to do, but finish off the Plague City Storyline (and elemental magi and wise old man :?)? WHAT IS NEXT?!?! Jagex' Corporate Website wrote: We intend to become a significant online operator in all the major gaming markets worldwide; developing and commercializing highly compelling persistent character games that appeal to as wide an audience as possible, based on cutting edge technologies developed in house. Our ambition for 2005 is to exceed 400,000 subscribers for RuneScape, to take RuneScape into other non-english language markets and to begin the development of a completely new game. someone_els
What would be the point of RuneScape 3? Would it just be even more graphics? Then the cycle would start over again! Although I must say i've had dreams about what an RS3 would look like... The Once and Future Quest Guru

Suliman101
your trying to speculate what will happen when all the quests are done, and all the skills come out, and everything there is to be released is released, then whats next. well the truth is, that really doesnt matter. because if you look at the big picture, what will happen after rs is left to just noobs, and all the really good people have gone? what happens, when the rs servers are run on noobs who just like to scam, and hack, and do idiotic things all the time? or maybe youd like to ask yourself what happens to you at this time? what happens to your account? what happens after you leave rs? what happens to rs? what happens after you die? basically, all you have is right now. so try to enjoy it. while it lasts. the apocalypse is inevitable, weather it be in rs, or in real life. there is no escape. Toxicologist
Eventually JAGex will become a large company and start making real commercial games, and we will all go play their new MMORPG and Runescape will diminish and fade. I have no idea what you are trying to say... Off-topic, but I agree. This Malo guy posts often and oddly :) On-topic, I don't think this is something to worry about. A runescape 3 sounds good to me, despite the fact that I really enjoy the current version. I don't think it's that close to happening, anyways. lpinkus
someone_els
Sorry, writing a post like this at 11:00 o'clock after just finishing off an entire bottle of sparkling cider made it look a bit more sloppy than my initial inspiration had warranted. HOWEVER, I have finally remembered what I read that sparked me to write this. primadog
You know, for a MMORPG runescape has a really good run already. The end will not be tommorow, but I wouldnt' be surprised for another two or three years. Basically, Runescape would not be scrapped until the subscriber level drop till it's no longer profitable for Jagex. ... and that will take a while. malo2
I doubt thatll happen, so many new members always come, but if it will, then theyll just increase the price to be a member, and the amount of subscribers almost wont change. Nugget89
People always seem to forget the massive amount of cash Jagex also gets from the ads on the site. RS might fade, but I doubt it'll ever be completely scrapped. 124 CombatRetired Echo of Silence Councilhttp://rseos.com/forums/
malo2
why would anyone think that rs will fade? its one of the largest and most popular games in the world, and gets constant fun updates, what makes anyone think itll randomly dissapear. Lastfm
Indizle
And jagex is a company, the can and will make other games, but that doesnt mean that they will necessarily scrape runescape. Its just not wise to scrape a successful game like runescape and put your company's future on the line with a new game. Even if it was EXTREMELY popular for the first few months, who knows if it will have the long term support Runescape already has. Think about it this way: An automobile company will continue to add new models, but they will not scrape the older succesful models out of the way... audee
As stated, jagex will seek overseas market opportunity.. creating rs in different languages to cater to users around the world.. I think they might enter china market where gaming is fast gaining foot hold.. as well as japan and korea.. the worlds' most IT integrated country. Just sit back and watch.. rs2 wun die out.. they will just keep improving.. coming up with new maps.. and new idealogies..

Even for those who don't have really good computers. Yes you heard me runescape will die out it's fate decided by "him"*. *the almighty god of games, FPS doug forever. Sup noobs. Toxicologist
Even if Runescape does not die out (which is likely the case), they will eventually create/use a new game engine for Runescape so it can support better graphics, etc. From what I am seeing, there are two paths for Runescape: Fade (like RS Classic), or Reborn (into a game powerful enough to challenge the major gaming world).
