noble_aloof
ok so my dad's a teacher and his school had 30 laptops.. but the last week of school someone stole something like 22 laptops (my dad had yet to hand his in). and the school decided that they are just going to buy new ones and teachers who still didnt hand in their laptops can keep them if they wish. so my dad decides to keep his, but the admin has it locked down. using my basic "skills" i can get into command prompt but nearly everything in it is blocked. how can i completely reset or gain control of the system? i can't install new programs but it allows programs to be run off of a usb drive. Solartide
Blank the admin password. Here's how: Get a computer with a cd-burner. Go and download this:http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ Burn to cd Boot into cd on the laptop Blank admin password ??? PROFIT! STEP II: Find gpedit.msc Simple run should get it out. Set everything to "not configured" I used to work as a school's admin for the computers, setting up the security was a breeze, do it once and just clone the pcs. But then old computers get rotated out and get redistributed to faculty and staff, then I had to go in one by one to disable all the stuff I put up. noble_aloof
quick update: stellar phoenix password recovery only works from admin account. john the ripper doesn't work because i can't disable virus scanning, and it seems like the boot cd isn't quite what i'm looking for, though i downloaded it. any other suggestions? or did i do something wrong? noble_aloof
Did you burn the iso as an image, or do you now have a disc with a *.iso file on it?If you have the former, as you should, you need to boot from the CD and run through the directions given there. I suggest just doing a clean OS install. i burned it as an image.. there were about 10 files that were on the resulting disk. how can i do a clean OS install without the installation disk? Solartide
Boot the pc to the cd, go under bios and change boot order so it boots through cd first.
noble_aloof
i don't think i can go into bios on startup.. it goes straight to the login screen. but i'll try later. obfuscator
You can always go straight to the bios, a screen will come up asking you to hit delete or f12 to enter setup, or some related key. Solartide
Start spamming the F keys, one by one, and maybe throw in some Del to spice things up while the computer is booting.
