The Last Airbender

I'll probably give it a watch since I like the show, but I'm really not expecting anything good out of it. I think the casting was extremely backwards, not only with the lack of ethnicity, but just the poor use of it. I mean the palest people in the cartoon were mostly the fire nation, especially Zuko yet it's the other way around in the film.

I have issues with films that don't adhere closely with the original. It just bugs me.

...so...are there any movies that you enjoy?

[also, going back to the star wars debate, Ep3 was rated PG13, so it was exempt from my point. The fact that Ep1 was the worst of the 6 is irrelevant]

Movies that are the original medium.

I just don't like when there are big discrepancies between the two.

Do you watch any anime? Characters do not represent their race 80% of the time. You've got rainbow colored hair Japanese girls with eyes the size of dinner plates. Just because they're drawn with white skin, doesn't mean they're white.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was an American made cartoon that was influenced by Asian anime. It was never meant to be true to anime at all (scratch that, that was stupid to say) It had a lot of influence, but wasn't supposed to completely replicate anime, but rather have its own spin on the culture. Nevertheless, I do think they should have variated, but with what they got I think they did a decent job with the children in the cast, though it should have had more variation with races. In the show, The water tribe were more Eskimo; the fire nation was more white/Asian. The earth tribe was also a mixture of white and Asian too, and Aang and the other air nomads weren't exactly Asian either. They did a good job with the water tribe and Aang, but the fire tribe and earth tribe should have been done better.

[hide]Though this was by no means a well written script, I went in with really low expectations and enjoyed it as such. The most disappointing part for me was the lack of comedy, lack of Aangs childishness, Uncle Iroh not being the fat jolly man, and Firebenders being unable to generate fire from themselves--only Iroh could do it in the movie--but in the series, they all could do it. They also mispronounced a lot of things, ike Agni kai and even Aangs name, once even Irohs name. [/hide]

They should have done a better intro as well, but as I have all ready said, I enjoyed what I watched a little bit because I lowered my expectations a lot.

Hoping to get a new Signature (with matching avatar) soon. :D

In the meantime...Steam username: )I'll rewrite it later (add me if you want)

I don't see why anyone would consider making this movie. He essentially took 20 episodes and compressed it down to 1 hour and 30 minutes. That's leaving out a lot of details, character development, and generally everything that made Avatar fun to watch. Add that to the horrible casting, slapped on 3D, and the moody tone and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Yeah I mean its nothing worth writing home about. I think the only reason for making it is to have a fun experiment with transforming a cartoon into live action. Also I mean come on, it is a PG movie. What PG live-action movie has ever been good? I think the acting needed to be purposely dumbed down so that the pre-teen audience could still be entertained.

And I didn't see it n 3D...I dont see anything in 3D. I think its completely ridiculous how much of a fad the whole 3D thing has become. 3D has been around for forever, in places like Disney world. Now all of a sudden people want to apply it to feature length movies...I really dont understand. Its just some silly gimmick or something.

Myweponsg00d, let your girlfriend watch the actual show. It'll take a long while to finish it but it's better than that piece of crap movie.

Yeah I had her watch the first episode when we got home and she enjoyed it. Maybe the movie is a marketing tool for encouraging people to watch the cartoon

Oh, and I thought that the last 30-40 minutes of the movie was far better than the first hour.

Simply put they shouldn't have transfered it to live-action. Much of the wonderness and .. uniqueness of the show were lost. Actual actors make it something just awkward, while the show makes it feel more like a seperate universe (I know, of course, that it is). I haven't seen the movie, but the 3D looks horrid, along with the stilted dialogue that almost seems to be mocking the show.

There is no reason for them to have "dumb downed" the movie for pre-teens, seeing as it was written for pre-teens. What gave it more depth than the usual pre-teen to 13/14yr demographic was it's depth. Yet despite the depth (the side stories really unfolded and developed the characters into something that you felt like you truly knew), they kept a perfect balance of battle scenes, romantic tension, drama, and humour. That is why, even though the show was never really the juggernaut that Spongebob was (and is, due to the continuous new episodes), you'll find a lot of positive reviews for the show.

Shyamalan just butchered it. All the videos I've seen have made me sad with how bad it turned out. However, it is inspiring to see that at least one person (your girlfriend) was turned onto the show because of the movie. It is easily one of the best cartoons so far.

Glad I didn't waste money on this one.

I saw this and am now in the process of purchasing the full series so that I can forget the horrible waste of money that this movie was.

Good, but you should've seen the series first. Series was pretty amazing. You know, for a kids show. Anyway, I sympathize with Shyamalan, because there's no real way you can condense 3 seasons of 22 episodes running 25 minutes each into a film. Oh well.

I remember watching the show a couple of years back and by the looks of the reviews I'll go and see it in the cinemas just torrent it so as not to waste cash...

Why can't the Big Bang be done by the hand of God?

It could have, but it is next to impossible because it also could have been caused by the flying spaghetti monster, or one of the other infinite number of deity possibilities.

People with dark skin tones are evil.

Oh yeah, I saw the series as it originally aired on Nickelodeon (because at the time I was a kid anyway). I'm going to buy it and watch it again.

The final episode aired like 2 years ago...

2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes

Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.
