The only spear drops I've seen were from hobgoblins.

July 30, 201015 yr I did get a prom spear from a hobgoblin (not solo though). I imagine that you'll get more primal/prom warriors as you go to higher floors with a higher combat level. I got a primal maul while solo. Too bad I couldn't wield it =) But to answer your side question, I just got a promethium spear and gauntlets from a forgotten warrior while soloing. Actually had two high level warriors on the same floor but the second didn't drop anything worthwhile.
