Slayer Help

Recommended Posts

I have recently become a member and am looking to train my range and combat level up. I hear that an effective way to train up my combat is via slayer. But i have no clue where to start. I have a rough idea but am looking to get to lvl 70 slayer and lvl 100cb (idk if thats reasonable but :P)

my stats are

att:72

str76

def:62

rng:65

mage:64

pryr:43

any pointers would be great

thx

Slayer works like this: you go to a Slayer master, get an assignment which include monsters for you to kill

once you've killed the number of monsters the master told you to kill, you can return to a master and get another one

slayer is oftenly done as you can get att/str/def/mage boost by helmets (black mask, hexcrest, focus sight)

a slayer gem will help you keep track of how many monsters you have left to kill

good luck!

What slayer master to use is based on combat level. Check your in game guide or a slayer guide on the forums or here on Tip.It to see what master requires what combat level. A handy quest for slayer (especially if you plan to train it for a while) is Smoking Kills. As soon as you can do it, I highly recommend it as it will give you access to all sorts of handy things (slayer points!) like being able to block tasks you don't like and abilities and gear you can't get without said slayer points...and the points will not only buy ablities, but gear (including runes) that can make you some pretty nice money when all is said and done. When I was going for 99 slayer, I made about 20m off my points alone. So, Smoking Kills...very worthwhile quest.

The third time I post this:

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Rune defender
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and bottom (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (saradomin sword, zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Zamorakian spear (leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

This is a little more advanced than 20 slayer but you can set a few years of casual goals on this .

Soul split before everything tbh

Not everybody has the patience to wait for that, and 84 herb with stew is much easier to get (with bunyip + ee, healing should be no problem). But I agree, I got soul split before I got a bunyip.

I'm 97 slayer and do not have ss, or a chaotic weapon.

A bunyip is by FAR the best thing to get first. And considering OPs stats, I also think that would be the easiest and most realistic goal for him at the moment.

I'd say the best thing for him to do would be to get tasks from chaeldar and just naturally progress.

+1 for that!

I got my SS at slayer 93

Definetly above all else - get 68 summoning.(except for Smoking kills quest and a slayer helm, that should be your number one priority) I have charms for 88, but not getting it yet, putting money into herbing because a bunyip covers all my needs for slayer.

Just my 5 cents - always train supper potted, and if in need of cash do clues, if not in need, don't do them - distraction from slayer, slows your xp.

I guess I'll be the only realistic one here, and NOT assume this guy has a ton of money saved up....

Some low cost goals you should save for first include...

Black mask, Focus sight, Hexcrest

Rune defender

Dragon Boots

Some Items to work for include

Karils

ZSpear

Berserker ring

Fury

Piety

Soul Wars cape

Some Dream items (i guess you could call it), would be items like..

Bandos Chest

Bandos Tassets

Chaotic Rapier

Extreme Potions (85+ herblore)

Berserker(i)

Turmoil/Soul split (try get turmoil in one go, Soul Split isn't worth it without Turmoil with it)

DO SMOKING KILLS AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

Do not get pulled into buying a DFS....ever...there is only one thing in the game that DFS is good for, and you probably wouldn't even want to fight them at your levels.

Until you get a bunyip, using Guthans is not unheard of, before I could use a bunyip, I would always slay in a Guthan body/Skirt, and have the helm and spear in my inventory to use when I got low HP. Once you can use a bunyip though, you can sell your guthans, and go for a more usefull armor set, such as Veracs for prayer bonus.

At your level, chaeldar would be a decent slayer master, don't use anyone lower then Vanaka.
