Barrows Equipment

I've just recently started doing Barrows runs and I'm kicking myself for not starting sooner. It turns out to be a lot easier then I made it up to be in my head. So, anyways, here's my question:

Based on my stats, what equipment and inventory set up do you suggest I use for Barrows?

The set up I have been using is:

Helm: Dragon med helm/ Sacred clay coif/ Ahrim's hood

Cape: Ardougne cloak 2

Neck: Amulet of glory

Ammo: Mithril bolts

Right Hand: Abyssal whip/ Rune crossbow/ Slayer's staff

Body: Dharok's platebody/ Red d'hide body/ Ahrim's robetop

Left Hand: Holy book

Legs: Dharok's platelegs/ Red d'hide chaps/ Ahrim's robeskirt

Gloves: Gloves (Adamant)

Shoes: Dragon boots

Ring: Ring of life

Inventory: 3 prayer potions, holy wrench, 10 lobsters

I'm open to all suggestions, but please don't waste your time posting the best equipment possible (e.g. Bandos). What I'm really looking for is equipment that is a good balance between stats and cost.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Personally, i go without the mage armor. With Dharok body, dragon skirt, nezzy helm, slayer staff, zammy book, d boots, mage cape, and rune gloves, my mage attack is somewhere around +15, which is more than enought to mage the melee brothers with, and it saves me inv space.

Edit- scratch that, i usually go with a veracs body to preserve prayer

Broad tipped bolts are 18 higher ranged strength than mithril and equal to addy bolts, they're only 1 gp more expensive than mith bolts. Mystic is a cheap alternative ahrims as you need very little mage bonus as the melee brothers all have low magic and are wearing their armour which has negative defensive bonuses. I highly recommend bringing a dds or enhanced excalibur so that you can use up your special bar. Getting your range to level 70 allowing you to use black dragonhide will help. A farseer helm has the same magic attack bonus as ahrims hood while being slightly cheaper and doesn't degrade (about 2-5 worse in melee defences though).

While a little more expensive, if you want to get guthans then you can go to the tunnels to heal off the monsters there, the danger to this is that you accientally spawn a brother when you open a door, don't do it when you're in ko range and you'll be fine though and it could allow you to do more runs per trip.

While not really equipment related, the quests in search/aid of the myreque and having a kharyll (canifis, found on the ancient spellbook) portal in your house can help you get there much faster.

First and foremost, get your range to 70. I would highly recommend using black salamander method. For gear, go with neitiznot helm, verac's top and bottom, god cape, broad bolts, and everything else looks good. In your inventory, just bring a dhide top and bottom; a ranging helm isn't necessary.

tigershelby2- As part of your set up you said mage cape. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I take this to mean the cape of achievement for 99 magic? If that's the case then I think I need a bit more magic boost than you since I'm only lvl 70 magic.

homer205- I'm going to switch to broad bolts, I knew they were better, but I never looked at the numbers before. Also, I've already done both quests you mentioned.

Mythrandir- I am working on getting that last range lvl now. And thank you, I'd completly forgotten about salamaders.

Any other suggestions?

I believe he was talking about the sorts you get from the Mage Arena.

If you explore the Salamander and ice burst method, where you sidestep the attacking brother, then looking into filled strawberry baskets might be a good idea. They offer 300lp per basket and can be mixed with some "emergency food" like monkfish or lobsters in case sidestepping should go horribly wrong. :P

He means the cape you gt for completing mage arena (miniquest) it has +10 to magic atack and defence. You'll need to kill a boss for it and maybe charge a godspell (can't remember) neither should be too hard at your level. Here's the link to Tip It's guide http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=mage_arena.htm I can't believe I forgot to suggest it, apart from the initial time/runes spent doing the quest you can get a new cape or change to a different god's cape at any time (just go back to where you originally get it).
