CaJ
For the years I've been playing (2003-2006, 2009-present), I know a fair amount of knowledge and the impact that Runescape has had on countless players. I know most of the good training methods, though for some skills (Mining and & Fishing), it has been close to a year without training them at all. So recently I've been going on a streak of getting my Agility up to 99. After I reach 99 in that skill, I have two more skills that I can reach level 99 in within a month or two of normal playing (2-3 hours): Magic and Hunter. At 91 Magic and 86 Hunter, I know a lot about both skills. But I don't know how to grasp which training methods will prove most profitable or fastest. I've already asked a dozen questions about training Magic. Once I obtain 50M in cash, I was thinking about doing Plank Make. Why? Because the spell has little down-time and you can actually break even or even profit by using the spell on Mahogany Logs. Other tests have proven that you lose huge amounts of money if you do any log lower than Mahogany. Someone on the RSOF said that you only need around 25-40M GP to get Magic to 99 from 86 using Plank Make. Being level 91, I won't need as much, but I still believe it is one of the fastest and most efficient ways to train Magic. There are other options. I heard by some that Stringing Jewelery can be fast, and saves time on clicking. Stunning is still a popular method by many, but for it to be effective you need SC armor (mainly Hats) to go along with your training. I don't feel like spending 48 hours playing in a SC Clan, so I won't consider it unless other methods prove to be too expensive or inefficient. A fast but little known method is casting Hunter Kit. You can cast the spell several times within a few seconds and it's best to do this next to a one-click bank (Duel Arena, Shantay's Pass area). I have not researched how long this takes or how much the cost will be, so I can't give out statistics just yet. The last option I may consider is casting Enchant in the Mage Training Arena. Though I suffer a loss of XP, people who have done this method say that is profitable. This is slower than the other methods I have listed, and requires a bit of patience. Though it may be worth it for unlocking Bones to Peaches, however I will consider that more for getting the rewards than simply for the XP. As for Hunter, I've read guides and watched videos on how to train your Hunter skill. Many still say that Red Chinchompas are the fastest, but numerous methods prove this to be wrong. Unfortunately the area is still highly overrun with bots, as we've all mentioned again and again. I've broken my training methods down to two: Grenwalls/Pawyas or barehanded Butterflies. Catching Grenwalls is one of the most profitable noncombat making methods in the entire game, usually getting 1-1.5M GP every hour. It comes at a cost though. Both Grenwalls and Pawyas require bait, and to do this efficiently you need a Fruit Bat pouch with a few hundred Fruit Fall scrolls. I still haven't gotten the hang of it, and my traps fail more than they succeed. Still this reels in around 60-80K per hour and around 500-1.5M GP in profit. Catching barehanded Butterflies is another good method. Usually with Ruby Harvests, you can expect to gain 80-100K XP per hour. Unfortunately like with Grenwalls, I haven't gotten the hang of it. I often run around the landscape covering huge areas, seeing my character jump up and down like a bunny rabbit. Would this be a good method, or should I try something else? So I've come to the conclusion that there are several ways to train my Magic and/or Hunter, of which I haven't listed many. I just need a little advice and knowledge of what works best. What may work out for others may not work well for me, but I'm willing to try a lot of different tactics should they be available.
Quyneax
Your wall of text is slightly intimidating . For magic: since you are not 99 summoning, barraging rock lobsters. For hunter: butterflies. Grimy_Bunyip
i wouldn't recommend going out of your way to level magic, considering you're already lvl 91. between LRC superheat, plankmaking while chopping teaks, etc. You'll get it to 99 eventually, and there's nothing really useful past 91 that couldn't be boosted to anyways. Quyneax
I think the highest butterfly you can catch is always the best. Th e Doctor
With your agility level hands down butterflies will be the fastest exp. If you want profit continue with grenwalls, red chins (what I did from 80-99) are a waste of time when you could make so much more money@ comparable exp rates with grenwalls. Just saw a guide the other day for magic training. It was string jewelery while making hunter kits, said 240 k exp an hour was possible but I haven't personally done it. Good luck on your goals. Grimy_Bunyip
I was 87 Magic in 2006. I am 91 today. I think I've put it off long enough...i've been playing RS for ~ 8 years now and im still not 99 magic. What's the rush? You don't get anything new out of magic levels really, other than some extra magic defense in dungeoneering and maybe the ability to cast spells without boosting. aren't there other skills you want to level up too? other than magic?I'm sure you could find a way to train them simultaneuosly with magic. there are dozens of ways to train magic simultaneously with other skills. Training magic on its own seems like a waste.
xpx
I think grimy is right in this situation- if your ultimate goal really is to max out, magic is one of those skills that can wait as the xp usually comes weather you want it or not. I've never purposely trained magic after 99(which i got in 05, just before they nerfed charging) and the xp just keeps piling up. As for hunter- the highest butterfly is always the best, doubt you really need the money from grenwalls. Other than the usual suspects for magic, i think the most worthwhile thing would be to always connect it with another skill- LRC gold, maging frosts(money for herb/pray) or barraging rock lobsters are some nice examples of this, but there are also other method(alching fish, plank make while woodcutting etc). First to 99 Farming on 27. September, 2005.First to 3766 Port Score on 20. March, 2014.First to 4664 Port Score on 2. March, 2015.
