I trade my charms all the time, usually without something in return. I even sell some to the smuggler in order to build an altar!

I don't know if I did something wrong, but I once tried killing the abyssal creatures for abyssal charms and found them extremely hard to get.

Trading up wouldn't be a huge problem, since most of the other familiars are still worth making. But tradable charms would make summoning just like prayer and herblore.

 

The reason dragon bones cost so much is that they aren't all that easy to obtain :) Where as I get tons of charms from slayer etc.

 

Dragon bones are a 100% drop from an easy monster.

 

Charms are not 100% drops, or even close. Those which are close to 100% are not easy monsters.

Yeah, although I wasn't there for particularly long, I just reacall them being hard to get.

If charms were made tradeable they would have to nuke the drops rates to keep away massive inflation. I have no real experience with summ but I think the prices would be about this:

 

Golds: 300gp

Greens: 1k

Crims: 5k-8k

Blue: 5k-10k

 

Crim prices would catch up to blue prices due to the massive demand for them over blues. The blue prices would go down and the crim price would rise, and eventually they will be similar. Then people would buy blues instaed and so on.
