DDR2 yes, and as long as your motherboard supports the speed and the amount you add. If you add a faster memory than your current one, your current one will dictate the speed. And same at the other and of course, If you add a slower memory stick than your current one, it will dictate the speed.

 

Upgrade how? You mean installing a new os? You can always uninstall from fail safe mode if problems occur.

It does however have to be compatible with your motherboard. Crucial have a useful tool that will give you an idea of what you need (though you can buy cheaper eslewhere)

 

2) All depends on the program really, its best to run an upgrade advisor (most OS providers have them) so it will tell what will/won;t work and then double check the won;t works for what the maker says (eg Windows one said GIMP wuldnt run on 7, GIMP said it wuld and it does). Also be aware alot of "upgrading" os invovles clean install so stuff gets wiped anyway its only the msot recent ones that can do inline upgrades.

After reading the motherboard user guide it looks like that is the best ram it will support.

What does this mean, I have always completely wiped the hard drive to install a new operating system, this time I was going to try an inplace upgrade to keep the user impact to a minimum. Two computers I am thinking of upgrading to win 7 an xp and a vista. Will it work?

Memory is fully standardized - so long a your motherboard supports the RAM simply adding more should be fully effective.

I would personally never upgrade a computer from one OS to another, it is just better to do a clean install.

OS thats are designed to do upgrade installs purposefully swap out old files for new one by one; then add in the new features and remove the unncessary ones

Either way you can't upgrade from xp to 7. The upgrade disc will work but it will clean install.

Then explain to me how someone can upgrade using a specific dvd and have the bug from the previous OS come back, and then formatting and doing a clean install with the SAME dvd and not having the bug anymore?

Pure Random chance.

Same as (for example) when I got the Sims 2 and did an install and it bugged out and crashed.

Removed it re-install from same discs and it worked fine.

 

That's the thing with computers every single byte of data moved or used at any given time has a slim chance of being corrupted. If too many of 1 file become corrupted (or a single v important 1) it can throw out crashes and bugs.

Like when you save a document to an usb absolute no problem; then stick the usb pen into school computer to get the file and guess what? the stick has corrupted itself.

Even if you use that argument, you increase that chance by choosing to upgrade rather than format.

There is no statistical proof that upgrading causes more bug or issues than clean install. It used to be the case perhaps but the msot recent ones have same odds of bugging out as clean install (unless of course you have completely screwed your previous install before upgrading)
