I would say wander around with no aims except doing quests and discovering new content when you come across it. You have plenty of time to plan ahead, take time to enjoy this early member period while everything is still fresh.

Do quests.

Raise levels as needed to do them.

They can unlock alot of content and make it easier to make money.

One Small Favour is a quest that takes you around the world but it is not so easily accessible. The very best quest (imo) to aim for is While Guthix Sleeps, which gives you some pretty awesome rewards, as well as crucial understanding of what is going on in Gielinor. It requires 275 quest points, and many preliminary quests also provide a lot of lore.

For quests that might be useful: the Lost City unlocks dragon longswords and daggers, Monkey Madness unlocks dragon scimitars, Regicide unlocks elven areas. The fariy quests get you easy farming levels and some tools. Farming herbs is some of the best money in the game. Basically you buy 5 herb seeds (or more, as you like), 5 supercompost, and bring a dibber, rake and spade to a herb patch (locations in the tip.it farming guide). 70 minutes or so later you return, pick the herbs, plant some new ones and sell the harvest. Good herbs to farm, in order of increasing profit and xp, are ranarr, toadflax, avantoe, snapdragon and torstol. Only farm the latter with the scroll of life (it requires 85 farming so it'll take a while, I suppose).

Major quest storylines are those of the dwarves, elves, desert, varrock/humans, trolls (seemingly come to an end for now), fairies (complete) and Fremminik. Some of these overlap, but I don't want to spoil the surprise :).

I'd put Lost City as your top priority- Dragon longsword is a hell of a step up from f2p weapons. Monkey Madness for dragon scimitar takes some more work but is even better.

Also check out the warrior's guild for defenders (offhand items with attack bonuses, very useful) and look into the quest Recipe for Disaster. R4D is a unique quest in that it has several smaller parts, and each one you complete increases your reward. Some parts are very easy like the bit in goblin villiage, whereas the one with the monkeys requires some moderately high levels and other quests. As you progress you gain better and better combat gloves, so if you complete just a few of these at first you can get a decent set for your level and then set the requirements for higher gloves as a goal.

Spin the camera around in a circle to pick a direction, go in that direction until you hit a sizable obstacle, rinse and repeat. Keep an eye out for quest icons, poke your nose into every hole in the ground, and carry the runes for a teleport spell at all times -- some places you can wander into are a little bit deadly and a pain in the ass to get back to.

Balance may be power, but chaos is still pretty damn fun.

Canada can't be second rate, polar bears are their main mode of transportation.

Do not forget the diaries. Have a look at those. Some of the requirments are quests as well. And will bring you places and get some nice rewards. Take it slow have fun. The content is alot more. But alot more fun. But getting around is the best place to start. Access to the fairy rings is a great start.

thanks good advice! what quests do you suggest i do that have a good level of difficulty or will broaden my knowledge of the member world?

All quests. When in doubt, do more quests. And I'd avoid using guides...much more fun without 'em. Use QuestHelp hints if you have to.
