Hey. I know a lot of you aren't fans of rap or hip hop so you don't have to keep reading. if you are a fan of Rap or hip hop, or are just in a bad mood- i have a great opportunity for you. Over the past 8 months i've had this rap group and i've done a few collaborations including one with a pretty popular underground group from where i am. I've been constantly at work to improve my flow, lyrical content, vocals, and delivery. Recently I've been trying to expand my fan base and get criticism on my work. that's the only way artists get better. I have about 8 of my best songs on Myspace Music and have two newer songs on Reverb Nation. I abandoned myspace since they updated the layouts to copy facebook.

 

Please listen to my work and critique me. the only thing i ask of you is that on my oldest songs you don't comment on my sound quality as i am aware and have since gotten a better microphone. For every 100 plays i get on reverbnation i will also be releasing an old song from our archives. feel free to critique any artists i have collaborated with as they also would appreciate it.

You sound ridiculously white. Other than that, it's actually not that bad. The background can get a bit distracting at times. Your flow is all right. Not really anything special, but probably better than most teenage white boys.

 

Of course, I kinda hate rap. So take that with a grain of salt.

Pretty good. If you have a better mic, then no need to comment on that. But the vocals do need some EQ tweaking, they are a little fllat. Also at times the vocals overpower the track at some points. Besides thats it's pretty good. Just throwin this out there but do you need original beats?

 

Also like hedgehog I am not a big hihop fan, just know a thing or two about recording.

Uhh, I honestly don't know what positives I could give you about it. There were a few decent lines here and there I guess and you got a little better in what I'd imagine is your later stuff, but other than that it was more or less cringe worthy.

 

Keep working at it though. Mostly your flow needs work, it's too uptight and you over enunciate your words. Improving on your lyrics would certainly be a plus too. Mostly just keep trying though.

 

Also I hate the group name, a lot and if I came across your music somehow, I wouldn't even think about listening to it just based off of the name.

To be honest I think you sounded alright but I did not like the lyrics, sort of felt like I was listening to Jon Lajoie.

swiller: again, thank you. I'm currently using an iphone 4 mic which suffices much better than my previous but i have no idea how to do any of this EQ stuff that artists seem to do and my quality is far from professional because of it

skull: the group name i haven't really had negative opinions about until now. honestly speaking i could ditch the group name if i wanted to.. its sort of something i've hidden behind to shield myself from direct hate and disrespect. especially at first.

low_c: as i said before the group name was created so people would not say "hey look at these kids with a dead serious rap group". but it makes sense that the name seems stupid and childish now. i don't know who jon lajoie is but admittedly my lyrics do get dull and ramble. and the last metaphor was kind of meant to be a joke.

My thoughts exactly. And the tone of voice is rather monotone. As if you were reading the lyrics instead of reciting them. Put some heart in your speech!
