Best mage setup

Haven't played in over a year and I was just wondering what the best mage set up is ingame atm.

Third-age mage hat

Ahrim's robetop and robeskirt

Arcane stream necklace

Chaotic staff

Mage arena cloak

Barrows gloves

Infinity boots

Seers ring (i)

Arcane spirit shield

 

That's max magic offence, taking no other things into account. A more suitable (safe) pvp setup would use a barrows melee helmet and perhaps a fire cape/ardy cape 3 to hybrid with melee.

Staff of Light is also generally more useful than the Chaotic Staff in pvm situations, especially during combat training like bursting rock lobbies, but yeah the setup above is the best possible for safe pvp if money is no object.

Any of these require quests? I only have just over 100 QP as I do not enjoy them at all.

The chaotic staff and arcane stream necklace require 80 and 70 dungeoneering and 200k and 30k tokens, respectively. The arcane spirit shield is 60m, the mage hat 31m, the ring 500k, the top + skirt about 7m, the boots 1.3m. The ring still needs imbuing (300 Mobilising Armies rank required), the cloak needs getting at the mage arena.

I might add that it takes 30 hours to get 300 rank in 'Mobilizing Armies', and doubles the ring's bonuses from +4 magic defense/attack to +8.

Mystic boots and Ahrim's: bad decision. I'd suggest getting infinity boots if you've spent so much on SoL and Ahrim's.

Depends on the situation, but for PvP the best setup is:

 

Veracs helm

Ahrims/zuriels top and bottom

zuriels staff (miasmic) + SoL/chaotic staff

arcane spirit shield

infinity boots

barrows gloves

seers ring (i)

arcane stream necklace

god cape or soul wars cape

 

that setup can beat pretty much any opponent except for another mage... miasmics are ridiculously powerful hah

Not using chaotic is understandable but the arcane stream really is worth getting. It's +14 magic attack and has a 15% damage boost.

If you are on a slayer task, a hexcrest / full slayer helm would be better than any hood / mage helm
