Farm runs for cash

Aten

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 57 farming and would like to ideally raise it to whatever levels I can (at least 65 for wgs though). I've also heard it's a massive cash source; I am more interested in money than massive xp at the moment. From the research I've done, it appears herb runs are the most profitable. How should I set up, what should I do in between, and how should I go through the run?

Here's the really general idea I have right now, no idea if any of it is right at all...

Set up:

- Lunar spellbook with catherby and fishing guild teleport runes

- Trollheim tabs

- herb seeds

- Ardy 3

- Ectophial

- Explorer 3

- Dibber, spade, rake, secateurs

- Fally 3

- amulet of farming/nature

- plant cure

- Supercompost

In between:

- Alching

- Slayer tasks

- Quests

Run: fally 3 - ectophial - trollheim - catherby

Preparation: My Arm's Big Adventure, fally/ardy/lumbridge 3 diaries, ghosts ahoy,

Should I use the highest level herb seed available to me, or strictly toadflax/ranarr? Also, I am completely clueless as to how farming actually works (most of my exp came from lamps). Do herbs catch disease, and should I pay farmers to look after my patches? Should I also plant other seeds besides herbs in order to maximize farming exp?

Finally, what do you guys generally do to pass the time between runs? The ultimate question... average xp/hr and profit/hr rates?

Sorry for the massive amounts of questions, thanks in advance for everyone's help! :D

If you are looking for cash, don't go for experience. Although sometimes they go hand in hand.

Grimy's spreadsheets show which might be the best for you.

I never bother with checking for diseased herbs. Waste of time.

Scroll of life and Juju potions dramatically increase yield and profit. And don't forget magic secateurs.

And you have to do the my arm quest! You get an extra herb patch that doesn't disease.

What to do in between farming runs? I usually log out and do real life stuff.

A herb run can be done in less than 5 minutes: exactly the time one juju dose lasts.

Start in trollheim.

Sip juju.

harvest. Supercompost, plant seed, tele next patch

The order of the next patches doesn't matter much.

ecto/ardougne/cabbage patch/chatherby. I usually end in catherby because there is a bank there.

Use supercompost!

The spreadsheets are a good help.

Snapdragon is good, but I don't think you have the level for them just yet. Stick to toadflax/ranarr/avantoe,safe moneymakers.

As for the other spots, I always do limpwurt as well, since the roots are valuable (but I use them for herblore) and the seeds are quite cheap. You can do marigolds as well. Not good xp, but better then nothing and the cash adds up (4*3k iirc).

You can't pay the farmer to look after herbs.

Use super compost ALWAYS, and unlock My Arm's patch ASAP. You can use cheaper herb seeds throughout the 4 regular patches and use a more expensive seed (ranarr) for the trollheim patch since it cannot die.

If u are on Lunar Spellbook, u can use the Soil spell to treat a patch with supercompost, this is not only cheaper then actual supercompost but also takes up less inventory space (as runes are stackable). Don't bother checking for diseased herbs or paying the gardener to look after them, it's a waste of time.

As for seeds, you probably are best of using toadflax, kwuarm or ranarr seeds.

Always use magic secateurs, that will increase yield and profit. For teleporting I personally go from trollheim -> canafis -> ardougne -> falador -> catherby, but I don't think it will matter much really in which order you teleport.

If you still wan't to gain a little more xp then just that from herbs you could plant cheap fruit- and regular trees like curry and willows. They don't give a aweful lot of xp, but are still good for decent xp (as u only have to do these once a day).

If u want a little more money u could grow Marigolds aswell, the seeds are like 50gp each and they give 1 marigold each worth 5k.

Additional tip could be, using a alarm and set it for when your herbs are done, this way u can do more runs a day and have a better overall farming experience.

If you're wondering what herbs to plant, then I would suggest Avantoes if you don't want to risk to much money. The seeds are around 2k each and Avantoes sell for around 3.5k each at the moment. If you want more risk you could do ranarrs, then once you get to 62; snapdragons.

If you want money and have juju pots and a scroll of life than ranarrr/snapdragon/torstol are your best bets in all patches. For sure do ranarr/snapdragon in the my arms patch if you don't have jujus and scroll of life, and then toadflax/avantoe/kwuarm in the others.

No need to be on lunars unless you want to super compost that way.

Juju + scroll of life once you can get them, they are rather extremely good. With juju you start your farm runs at Trollheim, without it it matters squat but I prefer to end at Catherby because there is a bank & pineapple salesman (I make my own compost).

Farm oak/willow trees and pinapple plants or something to get your farm level up for better profits, get 68 for snaps at least. This should also put you rather close to obtaining juju.
