February 16, 201115 yr I haven't read the "Today" thread in at least a week. Someday, I might care about those posts I haven't read. If I for some reason decide to open the thread, the "Go to first unread post" button will perform its function, but only once - if I leave, it will skip to the posts that have been made since I last visited, even if I haven't read any of the previous pages. I don't have time to read through a week of semi-blog posts. However, the longer I wait, the longer the unread section gets. Do you see my dilemma? I can't enter the thread, as I'd miss potentially interesting posts, but I can't postpone it indefinitely either. So I did some thinking and came up with a solution: All those guys with purple names, they probably haven't seen a good idea in months. Imagine just sitting around clicking the refresh button and wondering if any TIFfer will show up with a suggestion in this barren subforum. They could create a feature that solves my problem. I've called it postmarks, for lack of a better name. Here's how it works. For the sake of the example, we'll say the thread in question is "Things That Annoy the Hell Out Of You", and I haven't read it since February 6th. I enter the thread and click a button on this post, marking it for future reference. I then go to the most recent post, click a button there, and viola! I now have marked off a section of the thread which I would like to revisit, and can post and read recent posts as I like. The feature would also be useful for marking random things which need revisiting. For example, -a useful gif-An interesting video I have no time to watch-A long post which I'd like to read later-A funny video-A hot picture After clicking the button on each of these posts (which would go somewhere up on the top right of the posts or down near the reply button), I could then find a list of my postmarked posts on my profile page, in one of the tabs similar to "Recent Posts by Dupin". It would show a preview of each of the posts, just like the recent posts thing does, and they would displayed reverse chronologically by the date/time they were marked. I could then click on the post to see it in its thread. On each postmarked post would be an "Un-Postmark" button where the old "Postmark" one was. I think that covered everything. Sorry about my spelling and grammer errors, English is my 17st language.
February 16, 201115 yr I have two things to say to this. 1 - Neat idea, but it takes a programmer to do it, and it's quite a bit of work.2 - Lol'd at the hot picture :D "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

February 16, 201115 yr Well, for the time being there's a little link beside posts where it links you directly to them. All you have to do is copy and paste that link and add a bookmark. (eg. Click the #5 link on this post)
February 16, 201115 yr Author I appreciate the feedback. I don't actually expect this to go anywhere anytime soon, as I've heard the crewbies tend to be overloaded, but it could be possible, seeing as it's pretty similar to the "Recent Posts" feature. 2 - Lol'd at the hot picture :D Well, for the time being there's a little link beside posts where it links you directly to them. I expected somebody would point out the bookmark/favorites feature that comes with most browsers.[spoiler=See all those icons?]I've added about seven since I took this screenshot, pushing TIF and Facebook off of the main thing and into that dropdown menu on the right. In the OP I listed eight different potential postmarks. It would be impractical to bookmark each of those - that's why I'm suggesting a bookmarking feature within TIF itself. *This is pretty unrelated to the topic, but it reminds me: I didn't know how to go to the most recent post in a thread until almost a year after I started posting, and there's a thread in this subforum about people not knowing how to change the forum theme (colors). Maybe there should be widely-publicized "TIF for Dummies" thread? There are probably already tutorials around, but I wouldn't know where to go to find out about useful features I'm unaware of.
