Herblore Training

Serpent Eye

Recommended Posts

Hi, guys and gals. <3:

I'm currently Farming, and in my downtime I've been looking for things to do... I have been considering training Herblore up a bit. The only way I've really trained Herblore is with the herbs I've received from MTK, so I'm not quite sure how I should go about actively training it. (I usually just withdraw MTK once a week or so, and just make potions with the herbs I get.)

I am currently 86 Herblore, and would like to get to 89 or 90. (I'll likely get to 90 as the OCD will kick in...)

I just have a few questions if anyone could provide some answers and/or advice for me. I'd really appreciate it.

  • At my current level, what would I be best making? I read a recent post that said from 84 one should stew to make Extreme Attack potions...?
  • Is it wise to buy (Unf) potions, or should I just start from scratch? I don't mind starting from scratch as I've got time to kill, especially if that would be cheaper than buying (Unf).

Money isn't really an issue, but of course cheaper is always better.

As I mentioned a bit above, I've done some research already so I have a general idea of what I should do, but advice from TIFers is invaluable.

Thanks!

- Serpy

Edit: Also, despite me saying I'm currently focused on Farming, I don't mean to imply that I would like to FARM all of the herbs for Herblore training. Perhaps after I reach my goal of 99 Farming I'll switch to farming herbs for Herblore, but at present my Farming/Herblore goals are not connected.

Honestly, farming herbs is a fantastic way to get herbs for training and hugely decreases what it'll cost you. Between farming and Slayer is where I got most of my herbs for my herblore (94 atm) and the seeds I got for farming were from Slayer too.

Before you do anything grab a scroll of cleansing from Dungeoneering, that'll help reduce the cost greatly. At 86 you should be able to make Recover Special potions which are fairly easy to get experience, you should also be able to make super anti fires which are useful and the 2nds are free (although take a bit of time to collect). Really you should just make the best potion you can from scratch (so make the antifire then make the super/extreme).

There are cheaper, less efficient ways of training it but I can only speak from experience which was making the "new" potions from the second I could up until now and it's not cost me too much at all (Maybe 80M total from 76 to 94)

I might consider Scroll of Cleansing in the future, but at present I'm going to hold off on doing any more Dungeoneering. But I'm sure I'll eventually (sometime) get it.

Also, I do have supplies to make more Restore Spec pots... my only question is, what the heck should I do with them after?! I already have 500+ of them just sitting in my bank. >_>

PS you can't fire me any more.

Why 90?

If you are going to get 90, you might aswell go to 91. At 91, you can stew up to make overloads. :)

With restore spec pots, you can use to speed up training slayer a bit. On tasks like greater demons(or any other you don't food), these pots are great to use, since you have got free inventory space.

Well, 89 would be irritating to look at - 90 is a much nicer number. :P

Sell herbs but avantoe/lantadyme/dwarf weed/torstol, make 1k each of extreme attack, strength, defence, magic and ranged, then make 1k overloads w/ stew.

I Find Serum(207)'s to be extremely underestimated, as you can easily net about 80-100k/xp hr with you have the unf pots ready and ashes in bank, alongside with the fact that it's only like 14gp/xp

They have to be dropped or you will devote a bank space permanently to serums - not worth it.

I dont mean to hijack the thread but im also going to be getting 89 herblore soon and according to the cost calculator here on tip.it, it's going to cost me approximatly 22m to get there, i was wondering if anyone could tell me with the scroll of cleansing(which i'm working on getting) would decrease that 22m pricetag? I only have 10m at the moment but im doing herb runs and mtk so im hoping by the end of the week i'll have enough for 89

If you're making extremes it'd save even more money as you save the herb while making unfinished, then the 2nd when making the first potion then finally another poton (or 2nd, depending how the game feels that week by the looks of it lol) when turning the normal potion into an extreme/super.

I've never understood why people suggest making 1k of each potion then stewing to make overloads, I've made 2k of each (and 4k attacks) of the extreme potions and I'm 94 herblore and that's been making them since the level I could and it's been a much better way in my opinion of levelling as it gives you useful things to use right away and is much easier getting the level than making 1k of each (plus you'd have to make more than that to get to the level to make extreme range/mage without stewing. Seems like too much hassle to me.

It's true making overloads with a +5 stew boost is a hassle. What works for a person is also dependant on their ability to focus and how much you value xp beyond 91/96/99 etc. For example, for 90-99 slayer you'd use a few hunderd overloads, then for bosshunting a ton another few hundreds - 1k is probably all you ever need. If you value xp beyond 91, you could choose to spend more money and hold off the overloads. Personally I like the thought that I won't be needing potions for ages.
