Barraging Rock Lobsters

Sado

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

So I have decided to get a yak since I need 11k crimson charms. I was thinking about barraging rock lobs, but I do not know how much this will cost me. Is it worth to get the battle robes? Or should I just use ahrims and SoL? If it makes a difference, I can make about 1M cash an hour.

if you are looking to save money

staff of light and battle robes are worth it. they both save runes when bursting/barraging. if you want to take it a step further you could get a tome of frost also to save water runes+ and inventory space. there have been tests done that show high mage bonus doesn't make a huge difference there, so battle robes would work fine and will save you money and can also increase the time on trips.

Battle robes reduce the time you spend on a trip.

I direct you to Effigyscape which has calcs on this at the bottom.

From 95-96 it is less efficient to use battle robes. Before that, it depends on your income, the equivalent gp/hr is 4m saved over 90 mins of FOG, e.g. 2.7m/hr approx.

@ Naraku893 Yeah, I do have the tome of frost and arcane stream necklace. I assume I should use them.

@ Quyneax So I assume I should get the battle robes if I can't make more than 2.7m gp/h? And if it makes any difference, I already have 99 magic. I just want to get the yak asap.

EDIT:

So somebody just recently told me you get around 400 crimson every 1k barrage. That means I'll need 27.5k cast which is about 67.7M gp. If I choose to use b-robes, SoL, arcane stream necklace, tome of frost, god cape, ring of life, r4d gloves and infinity boots will I need to pay about 40M? ;o

If you are 99 magic, I would look into alternative ways of charm making for sure, unless you are all around maxed combat in which case it doesn't really matter.

Battle robes + sol halves rune costs and a little more iirc, so you'd pay ~30m or so.

It's 350 Crimsons, or 480 equivalent crimsons per 1000 Barrages (2 hours). Equivalent is the other charms taken into account & their xp converted to a crimson. Ie 4 gold charms = 1 crimsons, or 2 blue charms is 4 crimson.

Robes are worth getting for barraging & if you can do FoG easily on f2p - taking 1.5-2hrs to recharge robes (275 tokens).

So in your case, needing 11,000 equivalent crimsons charms (We will calculate in equivalent crimsons, as we will assume you will use gold, green & blue charms aswell that you collect as it is a big part of the summoning xp there).

11,000/240 = 45 Hours of Barraging.

Robe set lasts for 8 hours @ Rock Lobs.

You will need to charge your battle robes 6 times. This will take 10-12 hours.

45 Hours of Barraging @ 500 casts per hour.

22500 casts needed

Sol & Robes save you approx 50% of runes.

Actual casts you consume - ~11000

Current cost of 1 barrage. (water runes free due to offhand)

2400gp

26.5M cost.

+ Prayer pots (insignificant)

Remember that's dealing in equivalent crimsons, based on.

Green: Fruit bat

Gold: Barker Toad

Crimson: Swamp Titan

Blue: Geyser Titan

You will spend more money converting them into pouches, but the hard part is getting the charms.

Cannoning black demons, using the effigies on summoning and banking the ashes is much cheaper then even using battle robes, SoL and tome of frost. If you urn the ashes it's as fast as bursting too.

Edit: At least this is what I've heard, I don't have the math to back it up. That EffigyScape thread might though.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

EQUIVALENT CRIMSON RATES: These INCLUDE Effigy rates & the lamp going towards summoning @ level 92 & the xp being converted back into an equivalent crimson charm. The waterfiends are not based on max stats & maul but should be rough.

Bursting: 170

Barraging: 240

Waterfiend Ancient Cavern: 150

Waterfiend Chaos Tunnels: 205

Black Demon Cannon: 210 - 225 (150-165 without lamp)

Only drawback to Black Demons is the lamp adds nearly 60 equivalent crimsons of XP, obviously if you camp for a long time averages should "average out", however since no effigies are dropped from rock lobs, their charm rates are consistent.

45 hours of barraging + 10 hours of recharging + 26.5m cost = 65 hours (if earning that money takes under 10 hrs, it wouldn't be worth using the robes after all). 65 hours of ancient cavern waterfiends will get you ~9750 equivalent crimson charms, 65 hours of chaos tunnels fiends will get you ~13325 charms, 65 hours of cannoning black demons will get you 14625 equivalent charms of which a third in effigy xp, which is both faster (no pouch making) and slower (got to get the levels first).

1/500 effigy drop rate, 275 kph, so 109 minutes per effigy, say 110. According to the wiki, the charm rates are 20% gold, 45% crimson, 10% green and 1% blue (approx). That would mean you'd get around 123 crimsons, 27 greens, 55 golds and 3 blues per hour, which is an equivalent 150 crims per hour (again, approximately). If one effigy is 55k summoning xp, that adds 30k xp/hr to the total, which is 75 crims of xp assuming one crim is 400 xp.

Banking with a yak would be 150 ashes per hour, or 750k gp. Together with assorted alchables, ashes you store in your yak and stuff, I imagine you can get 1m/hr using ~2400 cannonballs (840k) plus pray pots, yak scrolls, overloads, rapier charge etcetera. You'd use quite a lot in overloads and ppots, so we'll call it break-even.

Thank you for the replies. I am nowhere near max cb yet, and I am purely looking into the most crimson charm I can get an hour. I might barrage until I get 92 summoning then cannon black demons instead.

Sorry for the hijacking, but is there a way to bank ashes without a yak that is efficient?

I'm imagine Tort, FallyTab > Bank > Wall & 70/75 agility + Summer pie Pipe or spikes would do the job, bank time of around 60-90 seconds. I'd say it's at least 200 kills an hr probably. (This would obviously make it nowhere near as good I guess)
