i got hacked and i dont really kno how..

Featured Replies

Ok yesterday i got hacked on my nub account..i think some1 got my ip address..

But I've heard credible sources say that its impossible to hack with just an ip address

So im thinking maybe a key logger?

I haven't botted or anything like that, that would make me vulnerable

Ive changed all my pws and recoveries etc..

I'm not sure how i got hacked..nothing happened to my account besides my pw didn't work

I scanned w/ avira and malwarebytes i didn't find anything.

What is the next step to insure security?

That's correct, you can't hack just by knowing the IP address. Try booting into safe mode and doing a scan there. If you haven't removed the virus, changing password and recoveries is pointless because the hacker will just get them again. Did you give your password to anyone else?

In future, be careful not to go to any dodgy sites, and be careful what you download.

would it help in the future to mask my IP address?

can you send me a link if that'd be beneficial? (to a good free masker)

I'm not so much concerned w/ how it happened, as to what i can do to stop it from happening again and insure

a safe account

It has nothing to do with your IP Address. It was most likely from a phishing site that you inputted your information in, thus giving them your account info.

Reinstall computer, get a new mail address, don't go to dangerous sites, all your problems are solved forever.

Don't use your RS password on any other website?

Getting hacked out of the blue means you probably overlooked something that could of led to your

password getting stolen.

-Using identical passwords on other websites.

-Logging in to friend's computer or other computers not in your possession. This is an easy one...

-Your acc getting "recovered" from a third party. This means your recovery questions

were easy to guess and most (if not all) information were revealed in your social networking profiles, etc.

Other than that. It was probably your own dumb fault.
