if it wher to revers we would either

A. shoot off into space

B. rotate the opposite way causing climate destruction

C. be sucked into the sun

Why would any of these happen? The magnetic field protects the earth from radiation, you're more likely to see what you described if gravity of the sun or earths momentum was greatly disturbed.

BBC on the "supervolcano" in yellowstone

The BBC recently estimated the force of a possible Yellowstone eruption in the following colorful terms: "It will explode again with the unimaginable force of a thousand Hiroshima bombs per second... And the eruption will last for days."

in my view, this has a much bigger chance(though still very small) than the world exploding.....or whatever apocalyptic event you people are predicting

saw a nova on supervolcanoes, scared half my class out of their skins

Yeah, and I live only a few hundred miles from yellowstone also

Ah god the volcanos gonna own me

the earths magnetic field flipping will not kill anyone. they have proof of the poles flipping by looking at the rock layers and seeing that every so often they polarity in the rocks changes, indicating the change in magnetic field. although yes the magnetic field would weaken slightly it will not do anything to severe to kill anyone. instead of having a north and south pole, while it is shifting there will be little mini poles scattered around the globe and people will experience constant aurorae all over the planet as the shift is taking place, and a slight rise in cancer patients due to slightly increased radiation getting through, i.e more skin cancer,

the polarity changes wouldnt be noticable... the poles changed along with the pull on all rocks... hope you get what i mean...

and the one in 2012 is huge because not only are the earths poles switching, the suns are also.... *last sun switch in 2001* and it is hypothesized the earths will be in 2012...

thanks everyone for the sigs!

We have no idea on when the poles on the earth are gona switch. Its not gona end the earth. yellowstone is gona make a lot of noise befor it gets blown to bits so most people will be safe the worst part will be crops. it has also eropted sevel times in recent history so we know that the earth is not gona be blown up.

the only way life on earth can end in the next 50 years is

(A) we upset the Empire and they rebuid their death star.

(B) something about 50miles in diameter smashes into the earth very fast.

© something moving very fast about the size of the moon flys real close to earth and changes its orbit.

*nukes wont kill everything and anything under

Every one billion years the sun gets 10% hotter so in 2 billion years the oceans will start to boil and all life will be gone.

In 4-5 billion years the sun blows up so be beter start packing.

im so glad hypothesized means its a fact nowadays.....*rolls eyes*

alot of other volcanoes are active.... ever hear of the ring of fire? yea... i never said that would be the end of the world... i HIGHLY doubt it will be

i never thought it was gonna be blown up, but i must ask,,,, how does that make sense???

A) oh shizz... i was hoping for that one...to die as a true jedi at last!

B) over exxageration makes you look stupid...just so you know

C) see above comment

thanks everyone for the sigs!

there not saying yellowstone will blow the earth but it will cause massive damge, dramatic climate changes, atmospehric changes, etc etc. If you read about it the magma under yellow stone is friggin huge. Its "Ginormous"(i like that word). It erupts every like 500,000 (maybe 500 million years or so. Point is very long time)

To put it in perspective

Mt St. Helens killed 57 people - about the size of a box of poptarts

Yellowstone Supervolcano - size of a 2 story house

It will have very similar effects of a metor crashing into earth

The Poles flipping could cause disturbances in the magnetic field and the ionspehere. No one can be too sure as what it will do to it, as the field is mainly generated by the rotation of earths dense core. The magnetic field protects of from solar winds, Cosmic radiation etc. It could POTENTIALLY cause some nasty effects. Also we will have to use different compasses or chasnge it as right now magnetic north is located NEAR geographic south and the needle of a compass is north so it points to the south magnetic pole located geographic north. Also animals use this to navigate and it could cause some effects to them such as pigeons, They have iron somewhere in them and use it to navigate (especially when migrating). Humans also i have read are said to have a bit of iron in the tip of the nose, or somewhere that helps you kinda locate which direction your going. I'll try to find an article.

Theres no reason to bash creationists just because the y believe in something science can in no way explain, as in fact i excel in science (and math) at school yet im a creationist (Christian)

I'm not going to comment on this thread, because although I find it interesting, I have not a single valid idea to bring to the table (due to an incredibly minimal 10th grade understanding of physics). However, this article is rather valid to the topic at hand:

mayans civilization is not still around... descendants of their heritage are however.... roman civilization isnt around any more... oh snap they must have been stupid too! guy

There's a difference between stupidity and not being able to read the future.

You, are stupid, and can't read the future.

The Mayans were smart, and couldn't read the future.

I didn't say they were stupid, you misinterpreted my post horribly.

I take back what I said. I've just been discussing this with my dad (whom is a geologist and does lots of research into archaeology and whatnot) and this could all be very real.

In about 3510 BC, is when the Egyptian civilization began. It just sprung out of nowhere. Now, it is possible that 21st of December 2012 is the day which could be the shifting of the polar axis. The recent catastrophies could be a result of "preperation" for the upcoming shift of the axis. As such, it is possible that the Mayan calendar predicts these shifts. Therefore, perhaps the Egyptian civiliation sprung up from another civilization - one which was advanced, and in which many died in the climate changes, possibly in Asia, Europe or other African regions. The survivors migrated to Egypt and began civilization out of almost nothing.

Another theory is that this would be a shift of human consciousness, caused by an allignment of the planets. There is scientific evidence to suggest that the allignments of the planets affect the magnetics of the earth. The magnetics of the earth affects our brainwaves, which in turn affect our behaviour. Thus, there is a possibility that an allignment, for example; one of all nine planets, would result in altered magnetics which would dramatically change our brain waves and thus evolve the human race.

dude i learned about that in my history class

i think it means the world will have a massive change like with tech or sumthing

The end of the world as we know it is when ignorant morons like you become the norm.

atl, stop that, you really hurt my feelings right now =)

I don't belive in those, when the world ends it will end not because someone said it will.

atl, stop that, you really hurt my feelings right now =)

First of all, I wasn't "cursin". I hardly think "moron" clarifies as a curse word.

Secondly, you immediately dismissed an idea, which has some historical and archaeological basis without another thought, in addition to using the condescending and over-used roll-eyes smiley (which can't even be seen). That's what I call close-minded, ignorant and moronic.

like i dont know the smileys dont work...

i dont want to spend my energy to sucha moron like you.

Then why the hell did you just post that?

there is more change the world turing in to a world like the matrix than the world ending on june 6th 2006 and if not the 2012.

I heard it wa supposed to happen at 7:06. 100 bucks to whoever figures out that i mean by that

I had figured that out when I readed the post about it would end on june 6 2006.

7:06 means 6 hours plus 66 minutes.

My 100 bucks, we accept all credit cards and pay pal ;)

It will only destroy the world if you consider the world is all about the U.S.

I have watched the same BBC documentary, and considering the maximum effect of the explosion and the volcanic dust, will only be destroyed the western part of the U.S. (pretty much everything that's west of Ohio, on different levels of destruction).

If that eruption is much bigger than predicted, not much more than southern Canada, west of Apalaches and Northern Mexico will suffer.

That doesn't threaten the world geologically, however, without the U.S., the political consequences may be destructive.

Yeah, well, no offence or anything, but when your opinion completely defies the inevitable physics of the universe, I think you're the moron.

:? Sorry to kind of be a smart mouth, but that seems as accurate as another thing I read saying the world will end June 6, 2006.

Id better get packing :(

Rofl and I had a feeling somebody would say that being June 6, 2006 is abreviated as 6-6-6.

that's because that's what it is supposed to mean, sounds like a bunch of crap to me.
