Chaotic maul or rapier?

Featured Replies

Ok so I know the default answer would definitely be rapier, but I'm not 100% sure I would use it as much as a maul. I don't plan on levelling Slayer again for a long, long time. I want to start killing TDs for money so I can raise my effigy skills, and I figured a maul would be better for this. I will get both eventually but I want to take a break from Dungeoneering to start raising my skills and getting money again for a while.

If you're going to spend a lot of time at TDs, then yeah a maul would be useful. Also you can use it for waterfiends to get your last two summoning levels, which would make TDs even better (you'll get blues from TDs, too, though). Remember to use maul with karil's xbow or a handcannon if you have 99 firemaking.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

If you plan on getting 85+dg soon, then get the rapier so you can kill frosts for cash and save the maul for later.

If you don't plan on getting 85+dg soon, then get the maul so you can do TDS and fiends, and save the rapier for later.

Just so you know - Rapier is also pretty good at TDS

If you like dungeoneering but are just taking a break, get the maul. You will return to get the rapier cause you don't mind to :P.

On the other hand should you hate dungeoneering you may lose a lot of time using a whip because you don't feel like returning to dg.

Nah I'm definitely coming back to get 90+ DG, just doing other stuff for a bit. You can close this btw, I bought the maul.

I assume you are planning to solo TD's mainly? In which case the Maul would be your better choice. Rapier is quite nice at TD's I have to admit, although it is only good really when you are the only meleer in a team with at least 2 other people. As far as a pairing weapon with it, a Karil's X bow will work very well as you do not yet have access to a steel titan. If you are there long enough you will easily get the charms for 99 Summoning.

TD's aside, Maul is quite nice for team bandos, sara, zammy and nex, if you're interested in other areas of MH cash. While a lot of people will argue that rapier is better than Maul at many of the places I just mentioned they are probably taking into account extremes, less than good gear and possibly not turmoil. I can see you have access Overload's but not turmoil, turmoil being a rapier's greatest strength, so in conclusion I'd recommend the maul ;)

I do very well at tds with rapier (also ccb), up to 35 kills / 40 minutes (2 overloads) when not interrupted. It really comes down to play style though. Since you've not got 99 summoning yet you'll be using unicorn and so should probably use regular prayers, which would mean a slower weapon would probably be better and you could handle void easily. Are you going to be getting titan soon? Do you plan on using it at tds?
