I joined sometime in 02, which was only a little after i got my first computer. unfortunetly, i only played occasionaly, and eventualy quit. I started again about 3 months befor Rs2. once that came out...well lets say i can't stand Rs1 anymore...

This is because im not really a person who enjoys the comminity, so it doesn't effect my gaming experiance (sp?). in fact i find it funny when someone trys to scam me. Haven't been scammed once XD.

My doctor says that I have a malformed public-duty gland and a natural deficiency in moral fiber and that I am therefore excused from saving universes.

i dont post much here, mostly just look around, but i found this and i love reading about the old times...

i started in the middle of my 7th year in school, which im pretty sure was 2001, only way i played was spending hours at the library

i do remember the people walking around with rune being level one

aswell as no one knowing wtf "catching" was and skill was pretending to have a 1h rune sword and really haveing a r2h... was fun getting a r2h early on and acctually having fun in the wildy

the holiday events were amazing fun aswell.. wish i would have baught as many party hats as i could, seeing as they would go around for 1k at the least

and the kind of class you picked after you made your character, like miner, warrior, adventurer and some other junk.. no tutorial :P was good

the dupe thing was the busiest day in all of runescape history  i payed 50k for a party hat when the real price was about 2mil+ or somthing like that? not sure but i thought someone was just plain stupid untill i noticed everyone was buying and selling for so low. <--- jagex got owned :P

well its been 5 years and ive played for a majority of it, and yet i still suck, without anything to show for the time that i have been into runescape

but it was fun

Ohhh lets share some memories then....

When you had to choose whether to be a player - that sucked. I was scared and I didn't date as I didn't want to loose all my stuff (i'm aware i'm only level 75 now. I didn't play as much as I wanted to :(). What else...

The day rune came out. LOL. and only one person could talk to the shopkeeper and as I didn't have enough money I spent ages attempting to hold up his time to annoy everyone. Seriously, I have never seen that many people converged on one spot than that day.

Then there were the exploits of Bluerose13x (her numerous clones), Lightning and the wonderful tip.it.

The fiasco of the duping (Death's it begun with - supposedly I've heard stories that there are still characters waiting to be played on with hundreds of party hats). When there was no land east of vurrok... when there was no wildy. Hell when there was no asganitha (or whatever its called). When there were only one type of arrows and very few people bothered to use them.

Aaah memories.

I find it hard to believe that there was an entire paragraph on rsc pking and "catching" wasn't even mentioned :?

wow... when i heard bout "the good ol' days" where every1 was friends and every 1 knew who was who, i was just like "w/e that was then and this is now, get used to it"

but now seeing this article and seeing those news items just really makes me realize how much a pro-customer game it was back then. but now we have millions of players, hundreds of worlds, and to be considered really good ya gotta be a lvl 126...

but i wish i joined back in '01. sure the autoers woulda been annoying, but oh well...

This really makes me wanna find a game just outta its beta testing phase

there werent autoers really back then mass autoing is relatively new

The only thing I want to comment on is that you mentioned more commercialism. Well, since Jagex is constantly expanding (i.e. upgrades and new servers), they need to finance this somehow. They need the advertising. Computers are tricky and break down, need repairs, and need programming. That's just my 2 cents

haha... lol runescape needs money. there were over 500,000 members at the beginning of November last year. Probably 700000 by now. if we go meager we'll say 600,000. 60 dollars a year for membership. thats 36 million a year income for the company IMHO that should be enough to run 100 servers and pay programers.

oh and sense when was there deep and shallow fishing spots. they werent released but were considered. jagex had a news thing on that.

I started on christmas of '03. And after the release of this new game I continued to play it for a whole 9 months, just for fun, before coming over. However I couldn't help noticing in that pic of the dude getting 85 mining... There was a "carpentry" skill. And nowadays in RS Classic, there is no such skill. Was there at 1 time?

I Am an old-schooler. I was combat 68 on RSC and then when rs2 came out it jumped to 71, and now im 81. So i've gained 10 combat levels the entire time that rs2 has existed, which is like 2 years. LOL!! although my skill total has gone up from like 770ish to like 1200ish. anywhoos, rsc rocks :D
