Runescape Too Bogged Down by Mini-Updates

All I can say is if this game was indeed dieing, why would we be here conversing about it? We would not be. We would be either playing other Rpg's or console games... Or other irl hobbies and such which we all do have contray to the belief of non rs players aha... I hate making myself sound like a nerd but, when you play this game... you understand why people could see it that way, and then you can see that others realise the enjoyment someone can get out of building a character in the "Rs world".

I have played for what must be a large amount of time now. I know it was a year or two before I discovered tip it, before then I was truely a noob in an exciting new world with lots to offer. Now im an experianced player, I see it no difference. Sure there arnt alot of things I dont know about now in the game, but thats the way I like it. For when a new update does come out or I discover something I never knew about the game thats been there for a while its kinda like a little "gosh, how didnt I know that... glad i know for next time".

... There will always be a next time. As long as Jagex keeps updating this great game with the good updates they have been doing (bear in mind they arnt all for 1 group of people... Sure some of the less combat focused players would like a bit of action without having to be so click intensive and well timed with food/attacks/prayers.

How can the game be dieing with all of our greatest mysteries still remain: Drakens castle, The Dragonkin, The Marrajat*'s... In my opinion, what Rs has now is just the tip of the iceberg for whats to come.

The small updates keep the player base occupied while the more complex updates and created and perfected (well we'll just say perfected to make JaGex look good). If there weren't constant, small updates, I think much of the player base would become frustrated, even if it ment that the new skill would be uber amazing. You have to rememeber that we now live in the age of instant satisfaction. No morew waiting for a letter to come in the mail when I can have an e-mail reply in 7 seconds. Why would I want to wait for a god forsaken update when I can have 3 or 4 a month?! That's how RuneScape has to be to survive (yes survive, not grow). To grow, RuneScape has to come out with the new and interesting updates that will attract new members. In the end, I'm not sure whether I agree with you because some of the weekly updates and my favorite things to do. My best example for an update that was major and worked on for ages in Mobilising Armies. From the start, it was a failure. I'll take my killing trolls once a month over playing a single game of that horrible minigame. Which took longer to develop? The latter of course.

Am I the only one who thinks the trees in Fally look stupid now? I'm not one to complain about graphical updates, but the new trees look wrong.

I lag so bad when going to falador now, i really hope all the trees dont change tbh. I liked the old rustic look of the trees.

100% agree with both of these quotes :)!

Updates have served this purpose for as long as RS2 has existed. They are merely "bread and circus," meant to serve as a diversion from how tedious and ludicrously grindy the game is. With few exceptions, updates are not meant for serious players. The serious players will stick around and follow their routines regardless if Jagex updates or not. No, the updates are meant for the younger, less experienced audience-- kids with crappy accounts and even crappier attention spans.

A lot of the player base is children, and Jagex respond directly to increasing the quantity of players, not the quality. Players whinge, and Jagex promise weekly updates. I said right from the beginning weekly updates could possibly be the worst thing that could happen to this game. Every update that came out back in the day, was amazing. The servers went down, we all got excited, and actually took notice of a well thought out, well planned, GOOD update. Now jagex will throw anything at us and players don't even participate in much of what this game has to offer, simply because it's well, [cabbage].

I would much prefer Jagex to plan an idea for 2-3 months, perfect it, test it, and be proud of it when it's released. There's too much crap in this game that is unneeded. Let's look at well thought out update pre weekly updates that are still in use today.

The wilderness

Lost city

The KING BLACK DRAGON

Guilds

Slayer Skill

Now, because there's too many fillers to name, I'm just going to have a look at the previous month to see if anything worthwhile came of it:

Deadliest Catch ... ( deserved to be called a quest? )

Freminick Sagas ( can't comment )

Troll Invasion ( what? )

Lava Flow mine ( k fun 10 hours now what )

Livid Farm ( yay more grind )

You might argue against my choices, and argue others should be up there. But that's going back 3 months and at the end of it we don't really have much to show. Instead, that 3 months could have been spent on something that could be actually useful, fun, non grinding or connected with anything in the game besides a green tick on my quest list. Or maybe, 3 months worth of time spent at Frost Dragons and using their "Bot Detection System" (lol) they could ban some players who have spent the time getting 85 dung. Oh wait ... that'll equal money loss right, MMG doesn't want that! Keep the bots to keep the money! Pathetic.

Why even bother with the rubbish stuff, why have it? To keep the whinging grinding players happy, only to have them quit and make a big post on forums saying they've wasted their life on rs because they weren't playing for fun.

Phew, end of massive rant. Runescape needs Andrew and Paul back running the show.

They need to make a new continent. Normal areas, nothing extreme. Improve graphics. Raise skills to 120. Put a bunch of new skill content such As trees on new continent. Give us familiars that we can fly on. That's thinking outside the box right?

Its not the bots that are going to kill Runescape. They pay for enough memberships to keep Jagex at their desks.

When the bots become enough of a problem and end up where they've got no one to RWT their GP to, no customers, they won't be putting money in Jagex's pocket.
