Castle Wars

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I was interested in starting to play Castle Wars.

I wanted to know what kind of armor to bring.

Since I haven't started yet, I'll bring barrows (since you can't bring a helm/cape yeah?)

However after that, should I be looking into purchasing the armor sets that will give you a % of extra damage to the enemy?

^If I should be getting these sets, which set is better then barrows?

Also, what are good ways to train in Castle Wars?

Should I be meleeing/maging/ranging?

I don't know much about the armours from the rewards but what you take with you depends on what you're planning to do.

If you prefer to play objective and capture the flag, good def armour is advisable.

If you prefer to kill people, good str bonus is useful.

You could always barrage/burst in places where there's alot of people standing together to get nice magic xp.

I wouldn't really be there for the kills (although, I would attack the enemy if they're carrying the flag)

I haven't really tried it yet but I read a couple of summaries of the event (which probably isn't the best thing to do)

TBH, I'd want to win more the game more then anything :P

I could always carry barrows for defense + bandos/castle wars armor for attacking.

Be prepared for alot of disappointment. I've been playing it since 2004 and now days it's taken over by players in insane wealthy gear like divine/ely shields, torva, steel titans, etc. It's basically a rape-fest for anyone new or low leveled. (and many others)

Armour wise, dont focus on it too much because it'll do your head in always thinking about it. just play to have fun, and avoid w24.

The best gear would be virtus, divine, chaotic staff, arcane stream, infinity boots, barrows gloves etcetera. Battle-mage would be good as well (you get the set effect if you own the helmet even though you can't use it in Castle Wars itself).

Pernix and handcannon or so might also be good to fight lesser mages, in Ahrim's etcetera. But you won't take down a virtus mage no matter what, or you need to make sure they can't heal off a lot of people.

If you want to melee, go with Bandos and Karil's. You should be able to take on some weaker mages in Karil's but in Bandos you won't have a chance versus even a level 80 in mystic.

For PvP team activities like that, keep two sets of gear on you. Arma top+bottom, Ahrim's top+bottom, the best ranged/melee def shield, crossbow and staff you can use, and a maul for KOing hard targets. Replace with Pernix and Virtus if/when you can afford them. That setup will be best for countering the inevitable barrage piles that will form when attempting to take down a flag runner. The most crucial element, however, is actually a Zamorakian spear. The spec not only prevents movement but also eating. While I'm not sure if this affects CW bandages, spears are used in high-tier competitive team PvP to chain specs into a KO.That will apply nicely to taking down runners.

Maul is a pretty bad KO on high soak gear, I'd suggest claws.

Are there any permanent groups for castle wars?

Maybe a clan that plays together or what not?

I'm getting really excited about this :P

@Quyneax, do you have to have the helm in order to get the bonus effect?

For now, I think I'm going to go battle mage gear (or something along those lines)

I'll save up for virtus and then work on that as well.

Has this game still retained the capture the flag type idea?

It seems that it's all about combat now :P

capt%20kevin.png

You have to get the helm as drop. Once you have it, and it's in your inventory or bank, it apparently provides the set effect. I haven't tried of course.

So is it worth it ever to buy those castle war armor?

The ones that give a % boost of damage?

It sounds like the best one might be useful but doesn't really have high bonuses and the battle mage/whatever sets are at least as good as the 2nd to worst ones.

Should I just be running around in barrows/switch to pernix when I can?

capt%20kevin.png

You can't spear if you have claws. Maul's the best option you have that doesn't gimp you.

EDIT: This is provided that the spear stun prevents bandage use.

I don't think spear + claw + claw is better than claw + claw + claw. A claw usually outhits a bandage healing by far.

You can use a LOT of bandages in a very short time in castle wars. Easily outheal a claw spec.

Oh they're more like bews then? Alright.

Silly jester boots + Armadyl + Spectral + ZGS + DSpear + Torags + Fury + rapier

Otherwise, I would stay away from the flag. :P

hopesolopatriot.jpg

If he's interested in damage and defense, he can do what i do and time my attacks right, so i can swap armor (in most cases i swap from my standard melee gear to my castle wars plate and legs) quickly for the attack and swap back for their turn

its the same concept as soul split flashing, but I do it with armor

just use a plate and legs, the shield isn't much worth it compared to a defender

I would also recommend you bring a set of karil's/black d'hide/pernix with a chaotic crossbow/rune crossbow with some broad bolts to deal with those pesky mages

I'm just interested in winning the game.

It sounds like everybody goes to castle wars now just to fight others though.

Is there any real capture the flag type thing going on?

Or are people just barraging other people/things of that nature?

capt%20kevin.png

With no teamwork, it's easier to defend than attack. Don't expect to win consistently even if you do everything right.

Once again, the spear is ESSENTIAL. Use it.

Here is the most complete castle wars guide I know of, it focuses on the competitive side. It should explain everything you need to know strategywise.

http://forum.tip.it/topic/243621-competitive-castle-wars-guide/

The damage boosting rewards aren't that good and you won't get the best of them before you have played 1000's of rounds

and obviously always use cw bracelet.
