Earthman
You should use all the shops and also play minigames that need you to cooperate with other players. It's really silly, DIY-ing is just collecting raw materials and I prefer to call it self sufficient. I think some of your rules are silly, but that's just me. Don't limit yourself too much. I'd say; buy tools from the GE, but collect every raw material yourself. Meaning, that an item that you'll ever only need one of, can be bought from the Grand Exchange, for example a pickaxe. But ores would have to be mined. That'd be self sufficient I think. Just my two cents, and feel free to not take my post seriously at all. :P
Jruskey2013
Buy it. But get your own feathers. Buying a fishing rod, or a lobster pot isn't that big of a deal IMO. But I'd check rs wiki and see if any of the rods have a spawn or anything.
K4ylan
Most DIYers use shops. If you don't want to, it will be a lot more difficult. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
Helm_Lardar
A shop is an in-game acess to something more easily. For example, the Champion's guild unlocks a bunch of rune equipment wayy before you can make it, and that's deliberate-once you can make that stuff, you either need it so you can sell it, or so you can get it for free. I'm not an efficienado.
LitterBug
I don't think most DIY use the GE.At least when I see pics of their progress, they always update with a GE history
Octarine
DIYing is basically treating the game as a single player game, and I think using NPC shops is fine for it.Of course, never using the exchange is a given, even though it means you'll probably not have a rune hatchet for a long LONG time.I'd also question the playing of group minigames (except perhaps a game of soul wars/pc from the quest reqs) In the end, play it how you feel is right :) Blog of DG, Bossing (mostly Glacors) and stuff - Runetrack Play Safe! - Got useful information for the tip.it website? Troacctid
No real need to exclude shops. They should be fair game. If you're not trading with other players to earn money, they won't be much of a game breaker anyway. I think team activities like dungeoneering or BA should be fine if you're just teaming with a group of friends. Finding a random pickup group on the theme world should be a no-no, though. There shouldn't be anything wrong with picking up another player's dropped items if you're not using it to circumvent your anti-trading rules. If someone's cleaning out his bank and drops a pile of orange seeds that you think you'll plant, knock yourself out. Don't worry too much about buying tools. It's okay, you don't have to smith your own rune hatchet or kill abyssal demons with a d scimmy until you get a whip drop. jasignhagj
True DIY means no interaction with other players, except to complete quests. This means no trading, no GE, no multiplayer minigames, no PKing, and no picking up others drops (With the exception of discontinued items). I see no reason to half-ass it, but do whatever you find fun.
transcript80
Play whatever you want. On a DIY matter: does a whip PK count as in "you killed him yourself?" Other data was removed when acoount got hacked...
Troacctid
True DIY means no interaction with other players, except to complete quests. This means no trading, no GE, no multiplayer minigames, no PKing, and no picking up others drops (With the exception of discontinued items). I see no reason to half-ass it, but do whatever you find fun."True DIY" is simply doing things yourself. I can DIY mage for three hours, mining all the pess and crafting it into runes, and then go back to buying runes the next day--doesn't mean those three hours weren't "true" DIY'ing or that it was somehow "half-assed". There's no need to put artificial constraints on top of your artificial restraints. :ugeek: Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP
Lacoste
If you need to ask what a DIY can and cannot do, you probably shouldn't do it, but thats just me...
