Need an experienced opinion on my slayer setup.

Grim Wrath

Helm: slayer helm

Amulet: Fury

Cape: Fire cape(Sw cape if I have to pray melee)

Body:Torso

Legs: Proselyte

Boots: Dragon boots

Gloves: RFD Barrows gloves

Ring:Ferocious ring or Berserker ring(i) depending on whether or not I have a cave task

Weapon:Chaotic rapier

Shield:Dragon defender

I use extreme potions and repot at 117, use Korasi's for a special weapon and always use turmoil and ss flashing for heals. My questions are: Should I buy claws to replace korasis for a spec, should I always use fcape for all tasks or always use sw cape? I'm torn between the two. Should I buy tassets too?

I have 26m to spend.

Fire Cape for all tasks, I used Bandos Chest Plate + Verac skirt until I could afford tassets, which I bought before dragon claws. Also, you didn't specify whether or not you cannon. If you currently do not cannon almost every task, I would recommend that you do, as this will greatly increase slayer exp/hr more than bandos/claws.

You will rarely need the SW Cape. With your current gear and since you cannot afford Bandos yet, Prayer will be about 11. However, I would honestly consider swapping Prossy Legs for V Skirt. The rest of your gear is good. Also, start Pietying every task.

No, don't get a verac's skirt, it's a total waste of money considering he has turmoil + ss and you don't really need a defensive boost.

I'd suggest buying the bandos tassets right now.

Korasi is pretty good for most tasks but obviously not for multi combat.

I'd try to get my hands on a claw but that's not of the utmost importance.

You are using extreme atk/str yeah?

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +10 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +20 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, black dragon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 70 prayer and King's Ransom - piety
  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

^Don't feel special I made that post ages ago :P. Verac's skirt would be nice if you were tanking stuff like dark beasts and the higher dragons.

Apart from setup, task list is the most crucial thing for a slayer. What tasks do you block/skip?

I have fire giants, terror dogs, kalphites and hellhounds blocked, I just bought tassets. I skip jungle stryks, desert stryks I like because I usually get 300-600k a task and I can do them fast. yes I do use extreme attack/strength as shown in OP.

EDIT: I also never bought aquanites because I heard they were crap.

I'd recommend unblocking kalphites if you've done Do No Evil and hellhounds. Cannon them in the lair past the KQ (unblock the shortcut from the surface) and the resource dungeon respectively. Both good tasks and very worth doing.

I'd unblock terror dogs once you get an iron titan, pretty quick points task.

Block jungle strykes, deserts are bad too but if you like them that's more points. Gargoyles are worth blocking, warped tortoises.

It isn't good because I mention it XD (but flattering). It's good because it allows you to tank more, but if you can ss tank steels in proselyte you should do so (for max efficiency). I personally never tried it and it's pretty annoying to ss flash sometimes even in Bandos, so I definitely wouldn't recommend it for anything less than 101% attention.

I always pray melee on steels irons, and black demons..should I start tanking them now? O.o

You will use less prayer which means it'll cost less which means it's more efficient. If you are protect praying you are effectively paying a little bit of money to relax a whole lot more. If you're an active slayer, always checking and re-checking your levels, prayer points etc., rearraging your inventory and such, then maybe some of that activity can be put into ss flashing :). It means less prayer pots carried and that makes it easier to do tasks in one go as well.

I have yet to run into a task that was not doable in 1 trip even while using fc and bandos. Also, there are no slayer monsters in single that you need to pray against unless you afk train (which honestly I don't recommend for slayer). You have 98 defence, that is more than plenty; I've been tanking tasks since about 85 defence (steels, blacks, irons, miths, waterfiends, wyverns, dark beasts recently) and have never had any problems keeping up (food is unnecessary and wat even are bunyips or unicorns). Wyverns with maul may be a bit challenging, but I haven't tried that myself so no comment there.

For multi, you should be cannoning and honestly that makes tasks go by so quickly that even 200+ velds with pray melee on can be done in 1 invo of ppots. Obviously you'll pray mage at spectres, but the task takes ~4 potions anyways.

That said, there are a couple tasks which are very very difficult to be done on one inventory of ppots (namely, abyssal demons and dark beasts); however, if you just carry a BoB you'll be okay with 1 trip since combat fams aren't useful on these tasks anyways.

Fire Giants are 52k xp/hr if you cannon at Waterfall, this is very good all things considered. Lackluster charms and effigies, however. Personally, the xp alone would make me want to do all fire giant tasks, but it's up to you.

I'd do terrordogs. It takes less than 10 minutes even though the xp isn't great. Quick and easy task.

Kaphites definitely do if you have Do No Evil done.

Hellhounds are a very good task in the Resource dungeon. Cannon + titan them.

I would skip desert strykes as well in all honesty. They're bad xp even though you think you can kill them fast, they're really nothing special.

Keep Aquanites out of the picture.
