best shield to use

Drakos

Recommended Posts

hi guys.

I've noticed running around, that a lot of players use the TokTz-Ket-Xil shield. So i went through the tip.it pages to see if it was actually any good, and i saw on the pages that its defense stats are lower than a rune kite shield.

Are the values on tip.it combat guide incorrect? or do players just use the TokTz-Ket-Xil for the appearance? (ie, cos it looks cooler)

if it is just because of the appearance, then is the dragon sq shield the best to use?

Yeah you use obby shield/rune defender as the step down from dragon defender for the str bonus.

If you realllllyyy want defensive bonuses in shield spot its only worth it with DFS, the spirit sheilds and I hear at least 1 of the dg sheilds is good; and even dragon defender is often a more efficient choice in dps etc.

well yeah, for me i do need the defense bonus... sick of having to do food runs while in the slayer dungeon =)

im only lvl 82 combat, but even the edgeville guy sends me to kill turoths..

DFS is short for what, exactly?

and while im on this topic, when i kill jellies or bloodvelds, i take the elemental shield for magic defense.. is there a better choice?

btw, this tip.it account is ages old, my RS player name is bug_spray69 if u r curious about my stats

Dragonfire shield.

And yes, on basically anything, the defender makes you kill them so much faster that you end up taking less damage in the end :). Protect prayers are still better, use your best boosting prayers as well.

Yeah greater DPS via strength bonus is better than defence.

You may take more damage from single hits, but overall you are killing the monsters faster so they don't do as much damage.

eg:

Without any item there you eat say 3 times per kill

With a defence shield you only eat twice per kill as damage you take is lowered.

With str bonus you only eat once per kill as you inflict more damage and kill it faster.

Only times defence matters more is with low-ish (80s or down) stats on monsters with really high def and strong attacks so the increased dps doesn't help you kill them fast enough; waterfiends would be a good example of this. But even then its still kind of debatable.

I understand and agree, however isn't it ironic that people say this, yet when people want to use (for (a terrible) example) the fighter torso, they're told it's better to use a torags/dharoks/guthans body? :P

Sup kids?

Fighter torso takes more time to get than it saves.

Dfs for any dragon tasks unless u got super antifire pots other then that dragon defender unles you prefer defense over attack
