The_Gabe
Kind of like how the RS system works, I'd be nice if offenses or "warnings" that were made over 2 years ago be erased from a person's account. It's only fair as time progresses that mistakes are forgiven. Thoughts? Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy. Kimberly
From my POV as a mod, it's a mark of progress if the same mistake is not repeated in a user's history multiple times. That shows, either by freak accident (less likely) or personal growth (more likely), that the individual has changed. In most cases a person who breaks the rules, say, in 2007 will have very little bearing in the here-and-now. The only time that I could think of that old offenses, for the sake of consistency let's say 2yrs ago like you suggested, would be taken into account is to show a pattern of offenses and personal growth. And changing this policy is not up to me or any single moderator, but the administration. It'd be interesting to hear it from a user's perspective. But no one should fret thinking that someone they trolled when they were younger would make their second offense 2 yrs later 10x harsher.
Crocefisso
This may sound silly, but how does this warnings system work exactly? Kimberly
This may sound silly, but how does this warnings system work exactly? http://forum.tip.it/topic/277517-moderator-spotlight For every warning that is sent, a moderator has to file the paperwork. This might sound silly, but keeping records of actions taken and private messages sent sent allows moderators to perform their jobs better. Thanks to their records they can make sure that users are not contacted by multiple moderators for the same rule-breaking post. Additionally, moderators can review each others' work to ensure that users are receiving equal punishment for equal transgressions. Keeping records allows them to have a clear overview of a user's history when more drastic measures have to be taken. If a ban is necessary, moderators must request one from a Super Moderator or an administrator. That's about it really. We keep record of bad/removed posts and contact the user if required. Requirement depends upon the severity of the offense, the user's history, how often it has happened, all that 'fun' stuff. And just like the spotlight said, if regular/global mods need to request bans, we have to ask Supers/Admins to not only do it but also to check the situation out fully and see if it really is necessary--that's another check and balance measure that we use to try to keep quality up. stevepole
I'd like to note that I was once banned from these forums years ago, so I can ensure you that we are very reasonable when we look at people's past.
Hobgoblinpie
I have worked on Tip.It as a moderator, and I think that it is better that a log be kept of all offences - whether 10 years ago or today they are still relevant. Tip.It mods consider action based on previous warnings, so if one was given 10 years for the same thing, it would pretty much be ignored, but if it was given a few months ago, that'd be a different story. I just realised I sound like I'm still a moderator. Ha. But realistically, I think it is unlikely to be implemented for the reason above. POH Agility Course, Please Support! Gandorf61
I think we try to look past old offenses the majority of the time so adding a standard procedure of ignoring offenses older than 2 years wouldn't be that much of a change imo. Basically what Kimberly has said is more or less my thoughts as well. Pyramid Plunder Guide Tip.it Forum Rules Adventurer's LogThanks to Cowboy14 for the awesome sig!
