Mage slaying

Recommended Posts

I am maxed melee, and want to finish as much of the rest of my slayer using range and mage.

Right now I use Dagon Hai top and legs, slayer helm, polypore staff, zam book, swanky boots ( ), zamorak cape, 'barrows' gloves, and a fury.

Should I get the Mage helm for void and slay in that? Or keep saving and get Ahrims after I get my bandos tassets back?

[spoiler=Eh]I was recently hacked, hence the swanky boots. I will have infinity again soon.

I had Ahrims before and it seemed to be working well, does void mage outweigh the 15% from my slayer helm?

Void mage only affects accuracy, not damage. It's also less accurate than just robes. So don't use it.

Do other void helms act differently? I always hear people saying to range in void, always...

Thanks for the info.

Melee void is x1.1 attack and strength.

Ranged void x1.1 max hit and ranged level (so 1.1 accuracy and 1.21 damage).

Magic void is x.1.3 accuracy.

Slayer helmet is x7/6 max and accuracy.

I wouldn't use pps for mage training. While it's the best and cheapest for fast slayer xp (In relation to other magic), it's awful magic experience as it has no base experience. Fire surge on the other hand gives a massive 90 experience per cast + whatever you damage, making it much much better magic xp. I'd recommend bringing alch runes while you do this by the way. So you can combat alch for an extra 70k/hour mage xp that won't slow your task down at all.

You'd be better off fire surging and then doing the rest of slayer with melee. I'd also advise against ranging slayer tasks too, chin is 1000s times better and would be more efficient to slay with melee and with all the time you saved over slow ranging, chin to 99 super fast.

Of course theres nothing stopping you ranging slayer tasks if you want a break from melee or whatever.

You're even better off using Storm of Armadyl. It costs about as much as a surge atm and has roughly 1.8x the dps.

Oh wow i didn't realise how expensive surge was, or how relatively cheap SoA was.

Yes definatley use SoA. Although it will be about 20% more expensive, it's much more damaging. (The mage xp will be almost identical though. SoA has a fairly low base xp but much better damage, so you'll get similar mage xp but much more constitution xp as fire surge.)

Is the 1.8x DPS at same casting speed or enhanced casting speed? That would affect price comparison as well.

True, I forgot to take that into account.

@ Powerfrog: Storm is only 20 base xp/cast less, so at average hits of like 266 and 412 (on task max gear no fero) that's 90 + 53.2 xp vs. 70 + 82.4 xp. Plus that SoA gets 25% more base casts per hour anyway, so the base xp/hr is 90*1200 or 70*1500 - only 3000 xp/hr difference. Overall the xp/hr difference is about 171840 vs 228600 (100% accuracy no attack turns missed), or some 30%. That's like using a rapier over a dscim xp-wise. Saying that it's 'almost identical' is a bit inaccurate.

Right my bad. I thought it was 35 base xp for some reason. Yeah, at 70 base xp SoA will be much better, even for mage xp.

You should really consider getting an arcane stream before starting mage slaying. It helps a lot in the long run.

Anyway, on task SoA is 92 - 93% better than Fire Surge and a lot more cost efficient. You should only use Surge on ice strykewyrm. I recommend you use SoA on dragon tasks, demon tasks (including abyssal demons, nechryael), ganodermic beasts and skeletal wyverns, and a PPS on multi combat tasks with a cannon.
