Total RS GP in the game.

Featured Replies

I was discussing with a friend how much currency is circulating through Runescape.

I welcome all to guess values, post theories, or even submit you're own questions. A few questions to kick off discussion, or provoke some thought:

1) How much GP do you think is currently in the game?

2) How much of an influence did Coinshare make to the Runescape currency/economy?

3) How many rare items are still in the game, and how many are horded by players?

Thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts.

Cake....

Cake?

1) Billions of billions of billions

2) Sod all really. Pre-coinshare people just lootshared and then sold items so not a huge impact on gp flow really.

3) Lots.

I don't think it's possible to establish the amount of gp total, but you can use the GE Centre to determine how much is being traded and go from there.

Good input, thanks.

If you take a look at price changes of sigils (Divine and Ely specifically) this year, you will notice that the price took a sharp decrease, compare that to spirit shield prices and you will notice a difference. Before the price drop, people were receiving a coin-share price for a divine/ely sigil which was far more expensive than the price of the completed shield. Unless you were mentally challenged, you would not pay the high price for a sigil, over a shield. So what happened to the sigils? If they are put in the G.E at mid price at time of drop, would that mean there could have been many sigils stuck in the G.E until recently (Hence the price drops)? If this is true, it means that allot of GP would have been entering the game, but no items. Which may have created a kind of inflation, or something similar.

It also raises the question, why did sigil prices crash so hard?

Thanks for the link, looks interesting. Good idea, might look into that :) On a side note, does the G.E charts update at a certain time?

Jagex manually adjusted those prices. Those sigils, floating at mid point for ages, finally were adjusted down to be much closer to the shield prices and actually have a chance of entering the economy now, which should take out a bit of GP, but not as much as Coinshare introduced when they first appeared on the GE for the pre-adjusted price.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

They were floating due to Coinshare. I believe it was Logdotzip who wrote a little piece about it. It was fairly interesting.
