Maya 3D Items!

Featured Replies

I dont know if anyone has ever heard of Maya, but its an awesome 3D Model designer which makes 3d production models like the characters used in games (like Counter-Strike). I do it as a hobby, and thought it would be fun to make some 3D runescape items. Here they are:

Blue Phat And Coins:

Santa Hat and Yoyo (NOT DONE YET!):

Comments?

Btws the santa hat is not compltley done yet. Im still messing around with the renders and lighting. (as you can see tha hat is sorta...long :o )

don't like them at all... sorry

aww are they reall that bad :(

It seems... hmm... very strange...

Not bad. I have Maya, too, and its capabilities are awesome.

Try experimenting with making your own polygons. Then extrude then and split them. That way, you can model something out of its general shape, and then split it to be able to grab more vertices.

Not bad though.

4/10... Nice idea, but it seems crazy

Great. They really help to familiarize yo uwith the tools and how to use them. That's what I did. Now, I'm no Pixar employee, but with practice, I'm sure I could improve ;) Buy a book. Maya (# of version you have) Fundamentals. That's what I have. It came with a CD and you can watch tutorials on there. Very cool and very easy to follow.

UPDATE: Ive added some lighting, shadows, and a plane. Ive also made the render 'Production' quality. And made the phat shorter.

Here is the updated Render:

Try online ones (if you can find any) and once you've got the feel of the program get a book. This can be done either way round but that way worked best for me :D

why did you already get maya? there are plenty of free progs for beginners....i suggest like jab said doing your own polygons...and make a few low poly items from scratch...youll get better...work on basics then work on details...good luck though, but 10,000 usd....is a little much for starting a hobby

thanks everyone for the sigs!

this version of maya is free. Its the Maya Personal Learning Edition, which is available for free download at their website. Its only diffrence to the expensive on is that you cant use the projects you make for commercial use, and it has some kinda annoying text on the renders.

In your hypershade for the coins, make sure the box for raytracing is checked. This will give you reflections.

Now, in the render globals window (where you changed it to production quality) click raytracing there too.

Now when you render, the coins will have a lustre to them and reflect the party hat.

The yoyo looks like a unopened oyster to me. :\

Try making the phat less er... perfect. eg make some of the points flop over abit.

Fel 'n ddedwydd ydy 'r hunau drwo choel a cer am 'r yn bucheddu.

I like those coins and that phat. But the santa is a bit to long and to thin. I would make it a bit shorter and thicker would look better imo 8)

im still trying to master the Mental ray, and extruding verticies. In other words, with the stuff I know right now, its impossible for me to bend the points of the phat without completley redoing the scene. I gotta order a book or something :P

Maya is my baby sisters name!!!

Lol, anyway, i've tried maya 3d myself but it is WWWAAAYYY to complicated for me...

The Santa looks to straight... TRY to make it bend over a bit... The rest looks excellent. 8/10!
