Becoming a PvMer [+One last little bit of help]

Cheat

Recommended Posts

Once my exams are finsied and I'm back from Ibiza I'm gonna have masses of free time and for some reason Runescape has caught my attention as it always does just before I'm about to start my exams (I will be endeavouring to ignore it). Anyway once they're done I want to make my account a viable PvMer and need your advice on the best way to do things.

As far as I can see the things I need for PvM are:

Max Melee's - I'm 82 in all my melee's currently.

99 Range - Its 76 but lets say its 80 because it will be once I've done BRD

99 Mage - Currently 82

95 Prayer - Got it already.

96 Herblore - Got 200+ overloads already.

96/99 Summon - got a rather pathetic 57 atm.

Chaotic Rapier and Crossbow + some others? - I'm 63 Dung and haven't really started it properly yet. ( I hope I'm going to like it as I usually do like maxing my efficiency in minigame style things and becoming pro at them)

A load of nice gear - At the moment I'm sitting on a 500m cash pile - this will hopefully grow and provide me with enough + it will be increasing (I hope) while I train the others.

A few task and quest rewards: As far as I can see there aren't too higher requirements for any of these and will hopefully gain most of them in my much slower quest for 80+ in all skills.

I have no plans to max total.

So please give me a plan on the best order and way to achieve the requirements I don't have also please point out to me if I'm missing anything blindingly obvious.

#1 priority by FAR would be to get a chaotic rapier. Then after that, do slayer to raise your melee levels and gather charms for summoning. After you get a good summoning level (88 at least) all you need to do is buy some equipment and you're all set, really!

You have turmoil and overloads, so the only real challenges left are maxed melees, 99 summoning, and chaotics.

Chaotics should come first(They'll help you train your melees faster, plus you can train in between dungoneering). I'd suggest rapier + maul over rapier + crossbow. Unless you're planning to Nex, which i don't think you can get into decent teams without a CCB and rigour. And for arma, i think Rigour is better than a CCB(I could be mistaken about that though). Maul is good for waterfiends and bandos. But rapier is your buddy basically everywhere else. Don't forget to buy that ASN for mage training. It's a mere 30k tokens and provides one of the biggest bonuses for magic training.

Melees can be done via slayer, or faster via methods like maxed out blisterwood polearms on vyrewatches. Or dagannoth sentinels in the dom tower. Whichever method you use, i suggest rapiering the ones you can since you're sitting on such a large cashpile. Use overloads too if you wish; spec restores with the DDS if you want to sacrifice AFKabilty for more DPS(If you even have a stockpile of them from getting herblore up).

If you're worried about total levels, slay for charms. If you want it quick, burst/barrage for them(Tasty mage exp paired with one of the best charm rates). Waterfiends are slower, but you can utilize Familiarisation every week, and it's melee experience. On top of that, you can at least somewhat AFK them with soulsplit.

Get void and chin for 99 range, pretty straight forward. Other than that, cannoning slayer if you choose to do it.

Mage should be done bursting/barraging for charms. If not that, bursting/barraging in the same location that you chin works well. Use battle robes + SoL and it'll cost half as much. But that's up to you if you want to go though the trouble; you have quite a bit of cash so it might not be an object for you.

Other minor goals are Goliath(And to a lesser extent, swift) gloves from the tower, and imbued rings from MA. They do nothing really but top off your performance to the best.

If you dont care about slayer xp you should skip slaying and go to better melee xp spots such as vyrelords for 150 k xp/hr and ~400 k profit or dagannoth sentinels for 200+ k xp per hour at a loss of the cost of prayer potions, overloads and summoning familisrs/scrolls.

Why exactly?

The best for profit bosses are:

Nex (Use range)

Kiln (Rapier is best but you don't melee too much, whip is good.)

Bandos (Use maul)

Corp (Use spear)

Glacors (Use mage)

QBD? (???)

He will probably spend much of his combat training at waterfiends, using goliath gloves and not rapier, to ensure 99 summoning early.

I mean he could use a rapier for training, but it's not that useful for high level PvM.

Seeing as you have no plans to max, just ignore slayer. It's a boring, useless skill that will slow down your combat training immensely.

Quest ASAP to unlock glacors (As well as DT gloves, SoA and other useful stuff) and then kill those for 99 mage + lots of charms + some profit.

Going from 82 attack, strength, defence and constitution to 99 is a preeeetty big deal. The rapier will definitely speed this up quite a bit more than just about any other item or ability in the game. Also, you could argue CR is good for offing glacytes and GWD minions in a timely manner.

Yeah, rapier is still good for Bandos, glacors, tds, Kiln etc. even if they are more secondary. Plus it's great for frosts, dks and stuff.

Make sure you get imbued rings before training melee if you get them at all. You need over 30m melee xp, which will take ~200 hours. 25 hours of MA will save a lousy 2-3 hours, but it's better than getting 300 rank after max melee.

Most important thing for becoming 'pro' is practice. Get a sub 50 minute Kiln run if not a sub 45, get 60+ kph @ tds for a full hour, get 55+ kph at glacors for a full hour, stuff like that. Improves apm, plus it's pretty fun. SS flashing is crucial.

Ok right so the current plan as far as I can see is:

- Do dungeoneering for a Rapier. [+ pick up a ASN]

- While dungeoneering continue to quest and skill for tasks etc..

- Get 300 MA rank.

- Max melee's at dagganoth sentinels.

- Max range chinning ape atoll.

- Max magic bursting/barraging lobs (Will this get me enough charms for 57-96/99 summoning or will I need to melee some slayer/waterfiends as well?)

- Use charms gained to max summoning.

- Return to dungeoneering for a Maul, CBOW and Rigour.

- While dungeoneering for these items do some bossing practice e.g: Kiln, TDs, Glacors, Bandos etc.. + hopefully make some money back to afford top level PvM gear.

How does this sound? Also, would appreciate some very basic estimates for the time taken for each of the steps involved. Again, cheers for all the help :D

If you dont have void and a deflector id say that should come right before or right after getting a rapier. Fastest chinning and melee training. Also make sure to farm herbs for cash. Should allow you to not lose money on dag sents

Whoops! I simply forgot to add getting void rather than not getting it at all. Indeed I will continue farming as I really quite like it :) and soon enough Torstols :D

Remember that its worth using garden pies from lvl 82 to farm them and to pick up the highest tier greenfingers that you can ;)

One last thing I would like to know is will 82 - 99 mage at rock lobsters give me enough charms for 57 -> 96 summoning or will I need to get some of my melee experience at waterfiends?

You don't get as much summoning xp as you get magic xp. Maybe 1:2. Waterfiends are pretty fun, but try getting 95 summoning first, it'll help training defence there also. You can get the bit of summoning between rock lobs and 95 with Bork, Familiarization etc.
