12bigo12
my mom downloaded some stuff and now we get pop-ups. WIll pop-ups effect my runescape playing and also can they key-log?
Zodan_black
Possibly on both issues. It all depends on the download that she got. I would recommend running an antivirus, adware, and spyware scan on your computer.
xXru1n3dXx
Use firefox, it should block those pop ups. Scan your comp for spyware/viruses/adware, and what did she download? RS Stats | BF2 Stats | ARSCV | LastFM
Darkdan990
firefox has some glitches, or it could just be my computer, i would recommend opera...but chances are that if u get pop-ups whatever your mom downloaded is ad-ware, in which the sender records your internet surfing habits and uses the information to send you ads that you would be interested in...I recommend downloading Microsoft anti-spyware and immediatly running a scan. neogeo0823
my recommentions are googling "ad-aware se", and "spybot s&d". those are the two i use and as long as you make sure to update and scan weekly, you shouldnt really ever have to worry about things like spyware and other junk. i dont know the direct download site adress, cause i used download.com to get them. i know download.com is safe, though. ive scanned everything i have ever downloaded from them and its all turned up clean. I couldn't care less if he was Andrew Gower himself, I just don't like arrogant smegheads. *in the voice of the comic book guy from the simpsons* best. quote. weezcake
Download Ad-Aware, Spybot Search + Destroy, scan your computer and delete what it finds. You may want to download HijackThis and post a log in the Tech forum if you need some more help (the techies will be happy to help you). ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring. jaklumen
AdAware SE: http://www.lavasoft.com Spybot S&D 1.4: http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html Hijack This 1.99.1: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html (This is the merijn.org home page, but as it was said, it can be found elsewhere) Also check out Spyware Blaster at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html. This will improve your security against getting spyware in the first place, and I especially recommend it if you use IE. It is compatible with IE and Firefox only. Moving this to Tech and Computers. malo2
oooo looks lije someone has adware. Your comp will just start running very slow thats all, and dont download any random free trial adware/virus scans, they usually just bring more, and dont download ranom popup blockers, they make things worse too. Darkdan990
you have to be very careful with hijack this...it records ALL the processes that have taken place on your computer, including your own ! Ad-aware is good, or Spybot. but don't blindly trust anything you find on downloads.com...be sure to check c.net's rating on anything you download

If you don't have any idea what the hijackThis finds, post it on this forum or send it to a tech head, who will help you fix your computer. :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
