Noooooooooooooooooo! Not Nero!

I'm too stupid (aka: no guts) to be a captain. It'd make it too easy for certain smart people to overthrow/kick my butt/kill me and take over.

Do not vote me.

Nobody has. There's no point saying that.

The obvious choice is ALG. Retech is not an option, he needs power witheld from him as long as possible. Earth doesn't want to do it.

Agreed, I would rather have Alg as a figurehead than wield any political power myself.

I'm actually fine with being captain, but I really won't do it with any other power than to say "We've argued long enough, let's do THIS."

Captain is not supported by any game mechanics to coerce, correct?

I did. My question was whether the captain received any additional authority to coerce people to follow orders or whether it was more of a ship consensus/force thing.

Or another way to put it, does the captain only get the symbolic authority to "break the tie" or is it actually enforced by the GM?

You don't NEED to know

Take the words at face value, for once. We argue, we don't reach a conclusion, and the Captain makes the decision.

Switching my vote to Alg. I would personally like constitutional protections, but anyways

Ehhh.

Basically anyone can shout 'Belay that' (or something) and the action gets stopped. The Captain can overrule that and just get on with the action. (Though can still get belayed once)

Essentially:

Player: Fire the weapons

Player: Belay that

*Weapons are not fired*

Player: Fire the weapons

Player: Belay that

*Weapons are not fired*

Captain: Fire the weapons

Player: Belay that

*Weapons are not fired*

Captain Fire the weapons

Player: Belay that

*Weapons are fired*

Cause otherwise it is tedious as hell.

Also ideally the Captain would have the last word with the players as well, but not holding out much hope of that.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Well, I'll keep my vote out. But maybe you could make a poll for the vote, Arch. Easier to see.

I've just found out that Earth has been discussing secret deals to skim money off of the other party members and share them between himself and Retech. Also to take away rooms for party members to expand his own facilities.

I'd recommend you take your votes away from him. He's just acting as a puppet of Retech.

It's not about selfishness, not that I am selfish at all, but rather the freedom given to the players. The number of times Earth has destroyed something of mine and/or killed me in Space because of a potential risk (note, not actual, potential, there has only once been an actual risk caused by me, and there the only casualty was him because of his own carelessness in his (unsuccessful) attempt to deal with it) or unjustified distrust can't be counted on a single hand.

I meanwhile have never been directly responsible for the death of another player or the destruction of their equipment.
