Slayer! Always slayer! Each monster has a new weakness now, and weapons only have one style of attack, ie crush or stab, but the slayer masters should hint at what to use against them.

If you haven't already, I recommend doing the Combat Academy.

I did do the Combat Academy, and I found it very useful. I always shyed away from slayer, simply because I never really had the levels to do it. Which slayer master would you recommend?

If you don't want to do slayer and you just want a faster xp/hr rate I hear that dharoking Hell Hounds is great XP, you can find them in Taverley dungeon.

Ok, normally, I would have no problem with doing smoking kills, however I haven't done any of the prerequisite quests.... Can you recommend another slayer master please?

The highest one you can, I guess? If you can do Duradel, he assigns similar tasks to Sumona but more of them.

Really, I'd get to work on Smoking Kills, it's best to do that first and get the benefits of Slayer Points instead of holding it off and not getting the points you're entitled to. They really improve the experience of Slayer in general. Nothing kills your motivation like a bad task that you could have blocked. Consider it a decent investment.

If you've got a decent crush weapon and the slayer level for it, I've found Nechraeyls are a fantastic melee slayer task. Fast kills, can stay there indefinitely with a bunyip, relatively good crimson charm droppers, occasionally drop the odd rune boots to cover costs. At 83 Slayer they're my best melee task XP/hr wise apart from Desert Strykewyrms which can't be attacked outside of task anyway.

He has 38 slayer according to his signature. I don't think he can kill nechs just yet. However, I would second Will's opinion. Working for the requirements to Smoking Kills as quests are ultimately the easiest way to get experience quickly and they open up many doors for training. Also if you plan on doing ANY long term slayer you will want to be able to block some tasks and get some of the other perks that come along with having the points.

As for getting the reqs:

Crafting isn't all that hard, you can do goldsmithing with gauntlets(if you have done the quest) Tiaras, or urns. All are decently fast options.

The quests to do this aren't that hard to get done, you could probably do them in a couple hours if you work quickly with a guide. All in all there is no real reason why you shouldn't just do the quest as it benefits you in the long run and in the short run. You'll get spins for SOF, some exp, as well as a good amount of experience for a few of your skills.
