December 12, 201213 yr Mod Edit for Context:Split from the EOC announcement thread as a legitimate discussion on microtransactions in runescape.~@Randox Well, the game probably will be dead in couple of years unless people start buying spins and runecoins. The game isn't dying because of deteriorating game quality. It's dying because Runescape can no longer survive on membership subscriptions alone. Ironic that the players who love the game the most are the same ones who vehemently refuse to contribute to its survival.

December 12, 201213 yr Have we actually reached the point where Jagex-RWT is seen as a positive thing :/ Not a positive, just it hasn't done as much bad as everyone thought it would do.
December 12, 201213 yr Have we actually reached the point where Jagex-RWT is seen as a positive thing :/I used to be vehemently against it, but now it seems that they have a lot more expenses, with a larger and more talented team, and they're actually producing good content, so the need for extra revenue is justified. When it came out and we were bombarded with ads and received little to no content, it was hard to deal with, but those days are gone.

December 12, 201213 yr Player owned ports seems perfectly poised for more RWT. Purchasing more ships, better crew, the ability to do more voyages a day etc. So is the EoC, with new buyable ultimates etc. I just hope they don't exploit that. Buyable xp, gp and cosmetics is surely plenty already. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr I disagree. Extra binds in DG? Removing the limits on dailies/weeklies? They could've used RWT in all of these already and haven't done so. There's no reason to suggest that policy will change, even if the opportunity is clearly there. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
December 12, 201213 yr Tickets for dailies and weeklies were put on the SoF already. Most of them are pretty shit anyway, but 2x Troll Invasion a month and 2x Familiarization a week is pretty OP lol. EoC Wfs task that's like an extra 600-900 crims. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr SoF being a wholly automated and random payout. Not exactly a direct transaction between real money and in-game experience; in fact, nowhere near it. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
December 12, 201213 yr They clearly haven't ruled PoP RWT out yet. Not saying they definitely will, but it seems to be on the tables still. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr SoF being a wholly automated and random payout. Not exactly a direct transaction between real money and in-game experience; in fact, nowhere near it. Take a large number of SoF spins, and you will be able to find an expected average xp, gp, and other bonuses, acquired per spin bought. On a large sample, it is quite easy to determine the experience payout per unit real wealth spent. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr Author Well to be perfectly honest, I think the whole "unfair advantage" argument has lost all of its power now that everybody and their dog is maxed, and every week a better/cheaper/more AFK/etc training method is introduced to make maxing even easier. Things that used to be considered "achievements" are now considered "normal." You don't have to agree with that. You do, however, have to accept it.
December 12, 201213 yr Buying spins is 800k/hr xp. You buy enough spins for an hour, you get a minimum of 800k xp in that hour. More if you get lucky on large/huge lamps. If someone uses that on agility, that's huge lol. It'd be the equivalent of them making prayer 8M xp/hr in terms of time saved. It's not just a significant but reasonable increase in xp/hr like say FPF being about 40% faster than advanced barb. For something like agility or slayer it's around an 800% increase in xp rates. Getting a bit off topic in this thread, it'll just be sad if they do introduce RWT into ports and the first trim capes, rather than being those who are genuine completionists, are RWT'rs. Equally if they give advantages in combat which you can't get without RWT. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr Author Also, doesn't that 800k XP/hr cost like $200 IRL anyways? That's like 40 Chipotle burritos... Besides, you could get 99 agility these days and following your logic, I could say that your achievement is a slap in the face to those who trained to 99 on the wildy course w/o a BA horn. But then I'd look silly.
December 12, 201213 yr The quote seems to allude to cosmetic differences rather than anything else, and when you look at Solomon's, that's largely what it's about. Adding extra slots in PoP would be akin to saying "Here's another cake" metaphorically. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
December 12, 201213 yr Also, doesn't that 800k XP/hr cost like $200 IRL anyways? That's like 40 Chipotle burritos... The player "The max cape" maxed out his spins every day for at least a month. Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr Also, doesn't that 800k XP/hr cost like $200 IRL anyways? That's like 40 Chipotle burritos...People will do it. I've played way too many f2p mmos with people "mall whoring" to be the best. In this game called requiem, top players easily spent close to 5 000 bucks just gearing up one character with the lastest equipment patch... needless to say, those patches happened 3 to 4 times a year and there were people with up to 8 completely geared characters, make your calcs...
December 12, 201213 yr The player "The max cape" maxed out his spins every day for at least a month. And is by far the most extreme example. There aren't many people that can drop $6000 on a game, just like that. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

Besides, you could get 99 agility these days and following your logic, I could say that your achievement is a slap in the face to those who trained to 99 on the wildy course w/o a BA horn. But then I'd look silly. Wildy course was 55k/h without a horn. FPF is 82% faster than Wildy course. Buying spins is 1354% faster than wildy course. Do you not see that one is a reasonable degree of power creep that occurs in most MMORPGs, and the other is blatantly buying your way to success using rates an entire order of magnitude faster than those achieveable without RWT? Asmodean <3
December 12, 201213 yr Author I think the real issue here is, people who work hard expect to be praised for their hard work. And then when someone else "achieves" the "same thing," they get offended. Keep in mind that getting 99 agility via SOF is not the same as getting 99 agility via adv. barb course, and it's not even the same thing as getting 99 agility via the wildy course. It looks the same, but they're completely different things. Yet people are treating them as if they're the same thing and getting all upset. You're essentially comparing apples to oranges. I highly doubt that the majority of people who buy spins to train are doing so for the attention and respect of other players like you are. I'm sure they would simply rather pay $200 IRL (which didn't magically appear out of thin air, mind you) than sit in front of their computer for over 100 hours doing something incredibly boring. Sure you can probably cite a few examples of people who go around bragging about their "achievements" from SOF, or those spend thousands of dollars on SOF, but those are the exceptions that prove the rule. Just one of those cases where the upset players would probably be a lot happier if they quit focusing so much on other people.
