are Christmas tree hats a good item to invest in?

Featured Replies

From what I've read in the unofficial RuneScape wiki, they are one of the two new discontinued items (the other being fish masks) that can be traded. This seems a bit unusual considering that Jagex has long maintained that they do not want new "rares" in circulation. My first thought was that they were accidentally made tradeable, but this seems unlikely as Jagex went out of their way to advertise the fact that these items could indeed be traded.

So my question is, are Christmas tree hats a good item to invest in? I looked around in the forums, and from what I gather, the current street price is about 14M. However, the GE price is severely undervalued at the moment, and I have no idea how fast the actual market price is growing.

Is anyone here investing in Christmas tree hats? Any input would be appreciated.

My friend has one that he is holding on to, but I don't see them increasing in value significantly. Just look at fish masks, they are worthless.

No. They are not rare and will never be

Eventually they will raise in price but because of their amount and their status of not being "true rares" (Like Santas, phats, etc) they will never rise that much. But theory dictates that as time passes and more fall out of circulation, one day they will rise.

In all honesty, the Christmas tree hat isn't exactly the coolest looking hat out there...

The fish mask was ugly, but still had emotes and gimmicks. The price rose incredibly high in a relatively short amount of time, but after the craze died down, it crashed.

It's worth nothing now, and still dropping. Keep this in mind when you consider the christmas tree hat. (besides, christmas fanatics would probably go for a santa hat instead).

Pking since level 5 pre-EOC

Yep, if you look at the fish mask price history

You'll notice it gained like crazy for a month and then it came crashing down. CTH are going to do the same.

presumably, even though they suck, they will still raise by a decent percentage at christmas each year for people who can't afford santas

Exactly. CTH were harder to obtain than fish masks, but that merely means instead of crashing to the <1m region, eventually they might manage to retain ~3m worth. During Xmas ONLY.

These rares will not become worth anything in less than 10 years. And even then, you can barely get a 10m for either of them (including those which will be released later).
