EOC Combat

I have been a long time player but have kind of fallen by the wayside since the EOC update. Not that I have a problem with it or anything, just cannot seem to understand what is best or how things work. With that in mind, I have reached a point where I would really like to approach the daunting task of 99 slayer. Although it is not too far off, my lack of knowledge in combat these days has left no desire to pursue it. With that in mind, I turn to the best place I can think of: Tip.it.

How on earth does one decide what armor to wear and when?

What is the best armor outside of the uber expensive armors that I should use when slaying in all three sides of the combat triangle? A typical "Slayer Helm>Helm of Nezinot>Dragon Full Helm" format would be amazing if not too much to ask.

How does one cycle and choose which actions that should be used on the action bar? This is a huge area for me after the gear because I may just bite the bullet and use momentum if I cannot figure out how to cycle.

Either way I would greatly appreciate any help. My stats are all 95+ and I have around 500m in the bank. I also own Superior for all Ports gear, Duel Drygore Longswords, have around 400k dungeoneering tokens, CLS, CR... and anything else I need to answer I can. Although you can just assume that if it is a quest reward or mini-game item, I have it. Outside of MA because well let us face it, boosting that sucks.

for slaying with drygores you want to melee everything unless it's easily barragable (nechs, abyssals). You should sell your MH drygore longsword and get a mace (it has prayer bonus).

Wear torva>bandos, a full slayer helm, whisper>fury, sixth age circuit, and comp>kiln cape

switch to chaotic staff and virtus>subj and arcane stream if barraging

action bar for melee should be
f8Do5dE.png

flurry and berserk should be added in place of two of the stalls on the end for slayer.

dont use kick unless your target is stun immune

use slice between all other basics

use thresholds asap

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

So the only weapons that I need are MH Drygore Mace for the prayer bonus (does this affect dps otherwise?), a OH Drygore Longsword, a choatic staff or virtus wand, and no range equipment.

For armor all I need is Torva or Bandos with no need of mage/range gear?

if you're going to barrage you need mage armor. All drygores are the same dps (+-1%) so you should use MH mace as it has prayer bonus, and the cheapest OH. If you get a virtus wand, you need a virtus book as well. AFAIK you don't range anything but the ascension guys slaying (range is the lowest DPS of all three styles), and you should skip them.

If you get into combat a bit, there are a number of tasks you can do as boss hunting. They are:

Dagannoths - Dagannoth Kings

Kalphites - Kalphite King

Aviansies - Kree'arra

Greater demons - K'ril Tsutsaroth

Black dragons - Queen Black Dragon

These are generally pretty decent cash and slayer xp, though your charm rates may suffer.

The idea of using abilities is that you are always using one (every 1.8 seconds unless the ability takes longer than that), but that you are also using the most powerful ones. The trick is to make a rotation that uses as few of the weak abilities as possible. As it turns out, that's really simple, just use Slice whenever you can and alternate Dismember, Sever, Assault, Destroy and Slaughter in between.

Because the speed of the weapon doesn't matter when using abilities, you should be best to get the cheapest, fastest weapon you can get for your tier.

Also for slayer, using momentum is HIGHLY recommended otherwise your hands will explode!

1. Sell your drygore longswords and buy maces. Same DPS, and fast enough to momentum with

2. Buy dual chaotic crossbows

3. If you want to put the GP on it, buy a virtus wand and book. Otherwise, get an ahrims wand OR wand of treachery and ahrim's book

4. If you have anything left over, buy gwd power armor. As you already have full superior ports, if you can't afford a full set of bandos/armadyl/subjection (minus helm and shield), prioritize on getting the boots and gloves first

To clarify, the faster weapons are indeed better (even when using abilities) is because they have a better auto attack response times, therefore makes tagging much easier.

However there is one thing I don't quite agree with wkw is the suggestion of Chaotic Crossbows and Ahrim's Wand/book. (Please note that the following statements come from someone who uses Abilities on all slayer tasks)

Chaotic crossbows are still good yes, but they already have 1 superior equivalent (Ascensions, but it's very expensive, so don't worry too much about it), and 2 practically equivalent versions (Zaryte Bow and Royal Crossbow), which makes Chaotic crossbows much less of a good buy than the likes of Bone Crusher, Charming Imp and scrolls of life and herblore, simply because none of the latter have any equal outside of DG, while Chaotic crossbows has many other viable choices.

Second, Ahrim's Wand/Book is nowhere near power it used to be, since the magic damage is now completely capped by weapon tier (as opposed to partial), while DW magic is superior in everyway (momentum or abilities), the accuracy and damage difference between say a T75 staff and Ahrim's wand/book.

If you feel lazy and want to OSRS your slayer tasks, then WKW's advice is very sound (but as I stated above, Ahrim's wand/book might be a little slow because of the accuracy and damage), but if you are using abilities, then it's different.

So chaotic staff is better than t70 wand+book in any case and t80 book+wand are better than chaotic staff?

I've also heard i should get main hand Mace and off hand Rapier because off hand mace is bad. True?

Should i use chaotic claws or something else(i have all chaotics btw) before i get drygores?

Oh and are overloads still worth using pretty much everywhere?

Yes, not per sé (mh mace is good, oh doesn't matter), yes, not really 'worth' it but convenient.

Off hand mace is currently the best all around choice of it being at fastest (though the speed assessment will differ depending on whether you have Rapier or Mace), and it is also cheapest off hand by quite a lot (second cheapest is at least 33% more pricey).

If in doubt, you cannot go too wrong with a pair of maces.

Yes, I have yet to try out 2h momentum magic, but the math does show it is better than dual weild. At which case, getting a chaotic staff or armadyl staff would be better than virtus or ahrims

Comparing Armadyl B staff to Ahrim's, I'd agree (the weapon tier difference is too great).

Comparing Chaotic Staff to Virtus, I'd love to see where your math are coming from, since my math indicate that 2h is worse in every possible way to dual wield during momentum when the tiers are the same.

Don't have the math with me, but I saw it here that 2h is superior to dual weilding, both with abilities and momentum, with the exception of tagging due to speed obviously.

That was the case before, but ever since that DW update that DW abilities took off hand damage into account, and adding Conc blast into DW rotation, that is basically ancient history.
